What travelers are saying
- maureen mCambridge, MA38 contributionsOur last-minute decision to visit here while driving by Buffalo on a long distance road trip was one of the best decisions we made! Beautiful and authentic restorations to the home were stunning. 90 minute tour with expert docent was wonderful; great balance of history, FLW designs and artistic appreciation.Written April 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John PLehman, PA93 contributionsI was so glad I went! This was worth every cent of the $20 admission price. Explore the WWII-era Light Cruiser "Little Rock," the destroyer "The Sullivans," and the submarine "Croaker." The walk along the waterfront was very nice and I imagine it will be awesome in the warmer weather.Written April 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - michaelj53Rochester, NY121 contributionsThis museum is strictly modern art. If you prefer traditional art, it's not for you. - tawny1956Millsboro, DE530 contributionsWhat a wonderful look at mother nature at her finest! The hike is a one mile loop, but to see the best of the rock formations and fissures, you should climb off trail. You have to proceed slowly and carefully due to uneven ground and tree roots, but it’s definitely worth it.Written October 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SharieN_13DeWitt, MI840 contributionsWe didn't get a chance to do the museum last spring and took a two hour drive to visit today. It was worth it. The staff super friendly, the museum was extremely informative. There was so much about their lives that I was unaware with and am so glad we came back to go through the Museum. We went to the comedy museum last spring and ran out of time to come here, hands down this was much better.Written March 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mike BFalmouth, MA673 contributionsExcellent small museum featuring American art. Beautiful collections of American Indian artifacts and folk art. A new exhibition of women artists was wonderfully curated and presented a diverse collection. - RhymesWithCameraLos Angeles, CA18 contributionsThis was our first visit to the Chautauqua Institute. We went for Week 3 and joined some of our friends from California for the week. We had no idea what to expect - and even after the first few days, we were still taking it all in. This gated community has a rich past with hundreds of historic buildings and homes right next to Chautauqua Lake.
We enjoyed a lot of the activities that week - from lectures and concerts at the Amphitheater to plays at the theatre to a steamship tour around the lake on the Chautauqua Belle. We looked forward to our morning walks along the lake and up and down the streets to look at the lovely homes.
The only thing we didn't like was the hotel we stayed at - the Spencer Hotel & Spa. I'll write about that experience in another review. We've already reserved our room for next year at the Athenaeum Hotel.Written September 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Fans are good, loud but not rowdy. Plenty of bathrooms. Easy to get in, not great to get out but ok. Lots of concessions choices. Prices aren’t terrible. Love that you can take the subway to the arena.Written February 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sheetal TCanada7 contributionsParking: None nearby
But a quick walk from any paid parking lots
Security bag check as it's a government building of course.
There is an elevator but need to climb a few stairs to reach the observatory. It's pretty cool. Grab a sandwich to enjoy the view.Written April 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
