Jack the Ripper Inspired Films and TV

by francescafay11 | created - 24 Sep 2015 | updated - 21 Nov 2022 | Public

This list includes stories about the actual Jack the Ripper case, then there are ones that have Jack the Ripper as a supporting, passing, or background character, others that are contemporary settings with Jack the Ripper style murders, and lastly some of these are related to Jack the Ripper in name alone. Most of them are complete rubbish...and almost all of them get the facts totally wrong. Also, I'm not planning on including shorts, documentaries, and video games, but there may be a few exceptions if they are good, popular, or noteworthy enough.

I included my scores of the films and television programs I have seen more recently, with brief explanations where needed. I did not factor in the accuracy of the facts on the case, unless it was meant to be a documentary.

Votes: 356

My Score: 5/10 (This film is a talkie remake of Hitchcock's 1927 silent version, with Ivor Novello reprising his role as The Lodger. My score is based on the American-version entitled 'The Phantom Fiend', which was cut down to 65-minutes from the original 85-minute British-version, titled 'The Lodger'. Unfortunately, the print available to me had terrible sound quality, but I tried not to factor that in when giving my score...if I had, my score would be closer to a 4/10.)
