Holy shit what a throwback
Encarta Mindmaze!
Hi all, I have a working version of this (2009) running on windows 8. The game of mindmaze is a hidden feature playable by pressing ctrl+z. Problem is this game is unplayable for me after the first question has been asked. When I move on to the next question the available answers stay the same as for the first question. I have flash player up to date so i can only assume it’s something to do with compatibility.
You may also try under Linux, with play-on-linux package.
It's a bit weird, but old Windows programs have better compatibility under Linux than under newer Windowses.
Right click on the program (or shortcut, I think), then go to Properties. In there look for Compatibility. Try enabling & changing that setting.

Encarta in the 90s was awesome.
Yeah it's fun to remember what a big deal multimedia encyclopedias on CDROM really were in the days before the internet made standalone encyclopedia products obsolete. I remember watching videos of space launches and deep sea submarines, listening to famous speeches from famous people and presidents, and seeing pictures and hearing music from far away countries!
For a lot of us, Encarta and other products were our first truly multimedia experience! I was trying to explain to my little cousin the concept and he asked "couldn't you just use Google or Wikipedia?"
He was more shocked when I explained the 30 volume World Book Encyclopedia we had on the bookshelf while I was growing up!
What a world we live in now! I remember sitting playing this whenever I was on the pc.
Anyone remember a dinosaur style encyclopedia with a game similar to this? I think it was package with encarta 95 but not sure.... It was definitely a DK product but I can't remember for thr life of me the title.

I got you fam.
Microsoft dinosaurs. I spent many hours on this !!
That wasn't it!
Looked it up and eventually found it "Eyewitness Virtual Reality Dinosaur Hunter". Blast from the Past...
Ahhhh. The ol' we dont have internet game we all were forced to love.
I used to love encarta on my family's hp with windows 95.
My Packard Bell was the jam when this came out. Also that Spider Man comic/video maker
The submarine choose you own adventure game, Journeyman, them Howie Mandel shits.
Totally!
Encarta 95 was my jam.
I didn't have a computer when this game was around and I remember desperately wanting to keep playing whenever we had "computer time" in class in like 5th grade on our school's one computer but there was never enough time.
Now begins the hunt to find a playable version of this game.
I got mine from here. https://archive.org/details/MicrosoftStudentWithEncartaPremium2009
It works fine but I still have the problem with the answers to the questions not changing. Let me know if you manage to find a way round it
Wow, this is a throwback. Would play this in the library in grade school because it was the closest thing to a video game I could play without getting in trouble!
Well there’s an image that probably would’ve been lost in my memory forever had you not posted this. Very cool!
Is there anywhere to get this now? Dang I miss that game. That and ski free haha

Yeeesssss!!! Now THIS takes me back. It's the late 90s, get home from school, fire up the family Packard bell and pop this bad boy in for an hour. Before dinner. Pure nostalgia trip right now, thanks
This game weirdly used to creep me out. The drawings always unnerved me when I was 6
This made my day!
I loved this one!
hell yeah
Could you ever complete this game?
I feel like I sought out the multimedia pages (were they like 20-30 sec video/sound clips?) and left the text pages in the dust... Very cool and made libraries the “hip” place to be haha
Used to play this all the time
