Pauline Kael New Yorker It’s a rampaging role, but Torn doesn’t seem to be afraid of anything, and he gives his character a pleasure in performance -- something that American actors rarely do. Sep 13, 2023 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times Like any good Hollywood suffering artist [she] goes and walks through a thunderstorm for 10 minutes and then conies in. dripping wet, to type out her first masterpiece. May 11, 2021 Full Review Derek Malcolm Guardian Ritt is an able and honourable film-maker but when his heart is on his sleeve like this, the result tends to be the kind of liberal Hollywood movie that looks and tastes like fudge. May 10, 2021 Full Review Philip French Observer (UK) The movie is well acted but director Martin Ritt used to get more roughage into his movies than he has been doing recently. May 10, 2021 Full Review Camille Kittrell Sojourner [Cross Creek] has an excellent supporting cast... and a very slick style. Aug 20, 2019 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Martin Ritt's chronicle of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings is not particularly illuminating of the writer's life, but it's well acted by Mary Steenburgen and especially Alfre Woodard.
