Incredible footage captured the moment NYPD officers rush to save a four-year-old boy who fell from a six story window in an apartment complex in the Bronx. 

On Tuesday at around noon police were called to the Patterson Houses NYCHA complex where they found the boy 'conscious and alert lying on the pavement,' police said.

The boy, who fell between a gap in the window of his six-floor apartment, appeared to have a leg injury, police said.

Once they arrive at the local hospital, police officers carry the small boy - who is only wearing boxer shorts underneath the blanket - and place him on a stretcher outside the hospital, where emergency personnel take over.

Police said the boy suffered non-life threatening injuries and is expected to survive. 

At the time of the accident the boy's 29-year-old mother was home, the New York Post reported. 

Neighbors say the moment must have been horrifying for the young mom. 

'Just even thinking it and just imagining a little kid coming out of the window, it's horrifying,' neighbor Lei Suarez said. 'It's horrifying.'

In New York City all apartments with children under the age of 10 are required to have window guards installed.

According to a NYCHA official who has seen photos of the boy's apartment, his windows did have guards and the air conditioner remains in the same window it is believed he fell from, ABC 7 News reported.  

A NYCHA spokesperson said the agency has launched an investigation into what happened in the incident.  

'NYCHA is investigating this unfortunate incident and will work with the family to make sure that they have the services they need,' the agency said. 'Upon initial review, window guards are present throughout the apartment where required and were last checked in February 2022, and there are no repair work orders on record for the air conditioners present in the residence.'
