There are many ways to decide on what Hogwarts house to choose in Hogwarts Legacy, even before the game releases. Although players will be entering Hogwarts as a fifth-year student, they will still be able to choose which house they belong to in the same way first-year Hogwarts students do with The Sorting Hat, as shown in the Harry Potter books and movies.
One of the most exciting features of Hogwarts Legacy is the ability to create an entirely unique main character, and choosing which Hogwarts house to be a part of while attending school is a big part of that. This new level of connection has been omitted from Harry Potter games over the past two decades, with most games following Harry Potter himself, instead of giving players the chance to insert themselves into the magical world.
Hogwarts Legacy House Quiz: Pottermore House Test
For those wanting to try a few Hogwarts house tests and quizzes to help with picking, or confirm they are making a good choice, there are a few options that are great stand-ins for a real Sorting Hat. Older Harry Potter readers likely remember the House Sorting quiz that originally was published on the Harry Potter website Pottermore.
Originally used as a way for players to connect in class-themed mini-games like potions making and dueling, Pottermore also sorted each member into a house, with what many considered the most accurate sorting quiz available. This was due to the quiz and most of Pottermore's content being curated or made by J.K. Rowling herself.

Unfortunately, when Pottermore was shut down for rebranding in 2019, the quiz was moved to the new WizardingWorld website, though lacking the perks that made the previous site as fun to be a part of. Players can still sign up to take the Pottermore house quiz, and get "officially" sorted based on the standards that were previously available. It is also possible to take a quiz to determine a Patronus, but the Patronus chosen may not be one available in Hogwarts Legacy.
Other Hogwarts House Quizzes Online
While the Wizarding World quiz could be a great option for many future players, those looking for a quick Hogwarts Legacy house test can also find numerous options on multiple websites with a simple Google search. A quiz on Buzzfeed only requires answers to a dozen questions, and collections of Hogwarts House Sorting quizzes can be found on articles published by multiple websites.
While some may be one-word answers to simple questions, other Hogwarts Legacy house tests can give fans fun scenarios applicable to fantasy settings or real-world situations, making the sorting journey introspective and thoughtful. While all of these sorting options could be a good solution to picking a house to call home in Hogwarts Legacy's map, players could also choose to throw down the stereotypes built around house identities and pick a Hogwarts House they weren't sorted into by quizzes or previous choices.
Someone sorted into Gryffindor could choose to play as a Slytherin in Hogwarts Legacy to destroy the stereotypes built by characters throughout the Harry Potter books and films. A player sorted into Slytherin or Gryffindor could choose to play as a Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff to learn more about the two houses, potentially unraveling content that has been repetitively missed by their lacking presence in the Harry Potter book series.
Pick A House In Hogwarts Legacy Without Tests & Quizzes
While it may be tempting to use online tests and quizzes to choose which Hogwarts house could be a good fit, there are actually several ways Hogwarts Legacy players can pick. The first option is to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The first book in the Harry Potter series does a good job of illustrating what each of the houses stands for, but without the politics and stereotypes of certain house traits that become a problem in later books.
However, both Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff don't feature widely in the Harry Potter books, which can be frustrating for those who want more information on options outside Gryffindor and Slytherin. To help with this, looking at the traits of each house can be a good tool for making a decision.

Gryffindor House is known for bravery, risk-taking, and chivalry, Hufflepuff House is known for patience, kindness, and loyalty, Ravenclaw House is known for intellect, wisdom, and strategy, and Slytherin House is known for ambition, drive, and resourcefulness. Each house will have unique Hogwarts Legacy dormitories with NPCs that feature these traits, so choosing a Hogwarts house also determines what faces you will see often.
