Basics (Continued)

Fundamentals Ten Tips

Ten Tips

1.) Hide in Shadows - No, not like in a game of D&D! Hiding in shadows in this game is a surefire way to succeed. Not hiding in shadows is a surefire way to tip the enemy off and get your ass kicked. If shadows are around, stay in them. It may not seem like you're hiding, but if your health bar is blue and not white, you are!

2.) Stay Well-Armed - If you see a weapon, grab it. If you're stealth killing enemies, no weapon has an advantage over another. Any of them will kill the enemy automatically. Varying your weapons will give you more variety in your stealth kills, and some weapons are far superior to others in melee combat, but don't neglect weapons if you see them. You may have killed enemies with the Garrote fifty times, but it's better to make it fifty-one than to not have a weapon at all, forcing you to fist fight with your enemy.

3.) Use Items - The most obvious item of use in the game are the Pain Meds, which can be acquired throughout the game and are mentioned later in this list. But there are other items that are impractical weapons, such as Bricks, Beer Cans, and Beer Bottles. These weapons are used to distract enemies. Throw them to make enemies walk into the direction the item landed. Then, sneak up behind them and BAM!... execution!

4.) Heal Often - Pain Med canisters are on each and every level. They are hidden in lockers and chests, sometimes they are even right out in the open. Hell, enemies may even drop them every so often. Taking damage won't be an issue if you're Solid Snake-like, but if you play the game more wantonly and take damage often, using Pain Meds is the only way (other than ending and then restarting a mission) to heal yourself.

5.) Be Patient - Patience is paramount in Manhunt 2. If you want to stealth kill each and every enemy in the game, you'll have no choice but to sit and wait sometimes… even for minutes at a time. If you're not patient, you can still beat a majority of the game using more conventional means. But for the sake of what Manhunt 2 is -- a stealth game -- exercising patience will increase your enjoyment of the game tenfold.

6.) Corpse Theft? - When enemies are felled, they will almost always drop the weapon they were using. Sometimes, they even drop ammunition and Pain Meds as well. If you already have a melee weapon equipped, then you won't be able to pick up another one. This means that you can't wield two Baseball Bats or two Circular Saws. But if you have, say, a Pistol or Shotgun equipped, and the enemy drops a Pistol or Shotgun of his own, definitely go and pick it up. You won't duel-wield any weapons, but you will get ammunition for your gun. And ammo is key!

7.) Aim for the Head - Each version of Manhunt 2 is different, but all of them will give you the option to either lock-on to your enemy or free-aim. Locking on is great and mostly used if the action is heated. But if you're aiming at a lone enemy, for instance, go into free-aim mode and aim at his head. Why waste 5 or 6 Uzi rounds by shooting him in the chest when one bullet through his head will make it explode. It's like shooting a cantaloupe!

8.) Attack from Behind - Why attack from the front when you can flank your enemy? Even if he'll get a few shots back on you, you'll still surprise him and make him stumble forward, giving you the element of surprise, and perhaps even affording you a few more free shots. And with that said, don't hesitate to attack downed enemies either. Once an enemy falls down, you can almost always kill him instantaneously. Just kick him once or twice when he's down. Letting him get back up would otherwise be a mistake.

9.) Specialized Kills - If you see a skull on your radar, it's representative of a specialized kill that uses items in the environment instead of items in your arsenal. These are really fun to attempt, so try to investigate each you come across. They might always be immediately obvious, but close investigation of your environment should reveal what's going to be used. For instance, there's a specialized kill where Daniel kills someone with a phone. There's another where a manhole cover is the weapon of choice. Find 'em all!

10.) Play "Properly" - The dichotomy present in Manhunt 2 is blatant. The game can be beaten in mere hours, and rather easily, by running through most of it. Enemies must sometimes be snuck up upon and killed in order not to alert others of your presence, but a lot of the game can be rushed through, especially if you're armed with a firearm. The so-called charm of Manhunt 2 is in the stealth aspect of the title. Bypass it if the going gets tough, but try to stay true to form otherwise. The game is a lot more fun if you do.
