Our Popular Investors often ask about how upgrades in the program work. So, we’ve put together a short guide that will hopefully simplify the process and help you to gain a better understanding of how to move through the ranks.
Rising Through the Ranks
The Popular Investor program has four tiers: Cadet, Champion, Elite and Elite Pro. Each rank has its own requirements and rewards. When a Popular Investor meets the criteria to advance to the next tier, they are automatically upgraded.
Please note that Popular Investors must remain within the defined requirements of each tier at all times. Those who fall below the requirements will be downgraded. To be upgraded back to the previous tier, you must meet all of its criteria, including the minimum time in the current tier.
Upgrades are made before the 10th of every month, around the same time that payments are made to Popular Investors. If you are a Popular Investor, rest assured that you will receive the payments and upgrades you deserve, so there is no need to request an upgrade or payment.
For all tiers, to be upgraded and paid you must:
- Meet the Popular Investor leverage restrictions
- Maintain a maximum daily risk score of below 8
Please note that all payments and upgrades are based on 1) your average monthly equity and 2) average monthly assets under copy (also called AUC, this is the total amount of money which eToro users have invested when copying you). This means that your daily closing AUC and equity are tallied each day of the calendar month, and then are averaged out on the last day of the month. Each tier also has its own distinctive requirements (including those who have been downgraded):
Champion
- Average Monthly AUC of $50k+
- Average Monthly Equity of $10k+
- 2 months in the Cadet tier
- Minimum of 5 Copiers
Elite
- Average Monthly AUC of $400k+
- Average Monthly Equity of $50k+
- 4 months in the Champion tier
- Elite Strategy Declaration (will be sent after the upgrade by the Popular Investor Team)
- Investment Management Qualification
Elite Pro
- Average Monthly AUC of $10M+
- Average Monthly Equity of $100k+
- 2 months in the Elite tier
- Advanced Investment Management Qualification
Monthly payment information
Champion
- 1.5% of annual AUC (min $250, max $500)
Elite
- 1.5% of annual AUC
Elite Pro
- 1.5% of annual AUC
Payments to Popular Investors are determined according to their month-over-month average AUC growth. Those who have growth greater than 1.5% are paid the larger payment for their respective tier.
To calculate the monthly payment, the average AUC is multiplied by 1.5%, and then the resulting sum is divided by 12 (months in a year). For example, if Elite Popular Investor Lisa Williams has an average AUC of $650K in September and an average AUC of $700K in October, that would mean her month-over-month AUC growth is 7.7%. Lisa’s payment for October would be $875, by making the following calculation: ($700,000 x 1.5%) divided by 12.
