Growing on me. What is this considered? Jazz fusion? Heck of a pressing at 45.
Think I'd say Jazz-Funk, but certainly Fusion would apply as well. Probably the most appropriate is FUNKALICIOUS!
I'd also say Jazz-Funk.
If you liked this one, check out the other Headhunters albums, especially Thrust and Flood (Live in Japan). I picked up the Flood reissue a little while ago on Vinyl and it's just delicious.
Headhunters is something else, I do echo Scoronam though, this is dipping your toe in the water. Personally “Thrust” always steals the limelight, I do often find myself leaning into the groove of these records and “Thrust” has a habit of seeming like you’ve left the groove behind and then wham, you realise it’s never left.
Get busy digging.
I get that. It’s crazy when I got it it didn’t tickle my pickle and now I’m quite fond of it. Bass is killer and I like the way the drums sound. QRP is my favorite although lately the dish warps are depressing me. When it’s right, it’s right!
Jazz-funk, if you like this you will love Donald byrds albums during the mizell brother era.
Thanks for the tip.
"Black Byrd" was Blue Note's all-time best-selling record so you can get a nice copy for cheap.
I had thought it wasn't just jazz fusion, but THE definitive jazz fusion album.
Either this or Bitches Brew.
I absolutely love this LP. I don’t care what it’s called, it’s just great. I sold my Japanese pressing for the 45 RPM AP and don’t regret it one bit
You call this: God level music.
It’s up there. By the time I got to the 4th side today, there was a DSOTM element I couldn’t put my finger on. Something tells me, the more I listen to this, the more it will become a favorite. And let’s me honest, best cover ever.
i just received this haven't spun it yet.
Jazz-funk.
