由於DSE Literature in English 2021年没有School based assessment，3小时的Paper 1 Essay Writing调整到62%，2小时的Paper 2 Appreciation调整到38%。

　　在Paper 1佔比率比较高的情况下，本栏今集就介绍一些答题技巧。

　　考生需要在Part I选择两条在不同Section的问题作答。在Part II，考生只需要答一条题目但genre要跟Part I所选择的题目不同。

　　很多考生以为背诵了所选择的文学作品，或一些坊间的文学评论，在考试时复述别人的意见一次，大杂烩别人的critical analysis便可以应付考试。

　　评卷员希望阅读的，不是one-sided argument或是文学作品的summary，而是考生对指定文学作品的个人见解及表达对文学的喜爱及分析。That is to present evidence of independent thinking and wide-ranging reading.  

　　Quotations是可以的，但务必点到即止。Keep your quotations punchy and sharp. 

　　在topic sentences及thesis statements当中，尽量在不同的clauses以action verbs/dynamic verbs为主。特别是描述自己立场的时候，语文要求要非常踏实，一针见血，避免兜兜转转：就是评卷员看了整篇文章一次也不知道重点在哪裏。以下有一些不同动词，读者可以思考并作出比较：

I consider / believe / reckon 

She contemplates / suggests / ponders 

He dreads / agitates / disturbs 

It indicates / illustrates / shows

It demystifies / reveals / unveils 

The film helps to adumbrate / crystallize / pinpoint

　　拆题目的时候，我经常鼓励同学要以数字标题。It is to number each aspect of the question. 例如：以下题目可以分成六部分

　　Compare and contrast the styles in which the writers present the theme of isolation to construct the characters of Jane,  Rochester and  Antoinette in“Jane Eyre”and “Wide Sargasso Sea”. 　　

1  Compare and  2  contrast the styles in which the writers present  3  the theme of isolation to  4  construct the characters of Jane,  5  Rochester and  6  Antoinette in “Jane Eyre”and“Wide Sargasso Sea”. 

　　段落结构要分明，可以在草稿时以每一段解答一个小部分，同时留意整体上下文的连贯性（paragraphing coherence）。在Final proofreading的时候检查有没有回答所有的部分。那便不会漏答题。

　　如能灵活正确地运用修辞技巧（rhetorical skills or figurative language）、明喻、隐喻等等当然是拿取高分的策略，但切记不要离题。很多时候，简单直接有力的语文也可以表达到自己的所思所想。要有足够的时间应付每一条题。Crisp expression is important.
