Recently started watching Monk for the first time.

Just reached season 2 episode 12 and just wanted to tell someone that Ted Levine (stottlemeyer) looks like he's enjoying acting in this show more and more and he looks like he's getting increasingly unhinged and im loving it.

Also benjy is great. Thank you for reading.

I love these first-time watcher "I just have to tell someone this" posts! ❤️ Monk is definitely the main star, but Leland has his moments on the show. I'm watching S4 right now and it's an episode where he has a large role (Mr Monk and the Captain's Marriage). Absolutely hilarious. It had me cracking up and few shows do that.

Yeah the show really just gets better and better over the time, the actors really develop well into their roles and dynamics and inside jokes become a lot more frequent, it really picks up even more and finds its pacing, and it's already very good where you are at. It's amazing and you're just at the beginning, congrats!

Its a breath of pure oxygen right out of the plant oven compared to anything being released now. Idk how to explain this but it is healing just watching this show.

yes absolutely. it is very wholesome but also real, which makes it special. the themes can be quite dark but the performances by tony shalhoub and other characters make it so fun and wholesome, but not naive and silly. it's definitely refreshing, especially with monk just being sure a pure man devoted to his deceased wife, his neverending loyalty. its really is a special and warm-hearted show, not to mention hilarious and so well-written with genuinely good mysteries.

Idk who this might piss off, but this show is not PC and it does it with no intention of being edgy or offensive but just expresses the lack of PC culture as a human experience instead of a crime its just relaxing to the braincells. Given that it's old ofc it would be that way but I've seen way worse and this show isn't trying to overdo it and prove anything special. It's just a show with a nice idea four entertainment with some life advice. Enjoy it or don't it knows what it is.

yeah that's also why i like older shows. Shows were just meant for entertainment, not social commentary. Now everything has to have a "message." Monk and many other shows of the time were just good based on their sheer quality. idk if you've seen Psych, but it's a pretty good watch after Monk. I like Monk more but it came out during Monk and has the same kind of feel to it and gets much better over time.

Also obviously you can see from my name I will recommend Columbo. You will see a lot of the inspiration from Monk there and it’s older but also very refreshing and funny, well-written and not PC.
