The OK2BME Youth Leadership Team is a group for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) to come together, gain leadership skills, and support their community!
The Youth Leadership Team is a group for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in grades 7 to 12 (ages 12-18) to come together, gain leadership skills, and support their community!
The Youth Leadership Team helps organize and run OK2BME’s annual Gender and Sexuality Conference (formerly known as Gay Straight Alliance Conference) and other events for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth across Waterloo Region. Members of the team develop community leadership skills such as facilitation, event planning, budgeting, and teamwork.
Who can join the group?
Anyone in grades 7 to 12 (ages 12-18) who wants to make Waterloo Region a more inclusive and engaging place for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
What does the team do?
The Youth Leadership Team works together to plan and organize events for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth across the Waterloo Region, including the 2024 GSA Conference and the annual Pride Prom. You will gain leadership and event planning that can go towards your high school volunteer hours.
What kind of commitment is it?
The Team meets on Monday evenings every other week from mid-October to June at Camino Wellbeing + Mental Health, 480 Charles St. E., Kitchener (just steps from the Borden LRT stop) from 5:30-7pm. Transporation support is available, and there’s snacks!
The OK2BME GSA Conference will be held on Feb 13th, 2024 at Bingemans Conference Centre. Team members must be available on Feb 13th, 2024, from 8:30am until 3pm for the GSA Conference.

Youth Leadership Team members are expected to attend all group meetings (if more than 2 consecutive meetings are missed without notice we will evaluate with the team member and discuss their capacity for the group).
