Former ‘Desperate Housewives’ Star Dana Delany Says Felicity Huffman ‘Did the Right Thing’ By Apologizing

Felicity Huffman’s former Desperate Housewives costar Dana Delany expressed her opinion on how the actress is handling her involvement in the college admissions scandal. “She did the right thing, she apologized,” the 63-year-old Us Weekly at a special screening of Frankie at the Metrograph in New York City on Monday, October 14. “That’s all you can do.”

Additionally, Delany — who played Katherine Mayfair on the ABC series with Huffman — believes the 56-year-old will “totally” bounce back after she is released from prison. The New York native also admitted she has spoken with Huffman “a little bit here and there just to say, ‘I’m sorry.’”

While Delany is supporting Huffman through this tough time, one of her other Desperate Housewives costars wasn’t afraid to call out Georgia Rule starlet for her wrongdoings. “White Privilege. And I saw eight years worth of it, so I know what I’m talking about,” Ricardo Chavira wrote on Twitter in September. “Accountability and responsibility doesn’t mean s—t to these people.”

Huffman — who shares two daughters: Sophia, 19, and Georgia, 17, with her husband, William H. Macy — pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud for paying $15,000 to boost Sophia’s SAT scores in April. She was then sentenced to 14 days in prison in September. Additionally, Huffman will have to complete 250 hours of community service and pay a $30,000 fine.

After her court appearance, Huffman was remorseful of her actions. “I broke the law. I have admitted that, and I have pleaded guilty to this crime,” she said in a statement. “There are no excuses or justifications for my actions. Period. I would like to apologize again to my daughter, my husband, my family and the education community for my actions. And I especially want to apologize to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices supporting their children.”

On Tuesday, October 15, Huffman checked in to Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, California. “Ms. Huffman is prepared to serve the term of imprisonment Judge Talwani ordered as one part of the punishment she imposed for Ms. Huffman’s actions,” her rep shared in a statement to In Touch. “She will begin serving the remainder of the sentence Judge Talwani imposed — one year of supervised release, with conditions including 250 hours of community service — when she is released.”

However, it seems like the conditions in the facility are a far cry from Hollywood standards. A former inmate compared the prison to “college dorm living,” they exclusively told In Touch. “Just imagine four people crammed into a teeny-weeny broom closet that barely fits four beds,” Amy Povah, who served nine years at the facility before founding the Can-Do Foundation, revealed. “Then, there’s a toilet and sink all in that little bitty room.”

Hopefully, Huffman’s time away will go by quickly since she is “terrified of being locked up,” another source admitted. “She just wants to get it over with.”
