Pokemon GO has recently introduced a brand-new update that not only changed the way that the avatars look in the game but also added some new backgrounds and biomes to the game that pop up when catching Pokemon in the mobile game. However, sometimes, when selecting a different Pokemon, even if it is just facing a slightly different direction, the background will change.

For most games, biomes offer major changes in the areas you're exploring, like changing from a winter biome to a summer biome. Pokemon GO currently seems to have a biome for everything — lakes, beaches, different woodlands, etc. This guide will explain how these new biomes work.

How Do Biomes Work In Pokemon GO?

Pokemon-go-different-biomes

Biomes are one of the latest additions to everyone's favorite Pokemon mobile game. It is just another way that Niantic is trying to make the game feel more lifelike when catching Pokemon, and for the most part, it is working (aside from the few times it glitches and shows you on a beach when, in reality, you are in a McDonald's drive-through far from the beach).

The new biomes work by tracking your location on the map — something the game already does — and it will give you a biome based on your location. For example, with experience in the middle of Virginia with the game, it shows different wooded areas, rivers, and other open woodland areas in the background. So far, it has been very accurate to what was around in real life, and it almost matches the map. These biomes will also change along with the weather as well.

All Biomes In Pokemon GO

Below is a list of all the different biomes that can be seen in the latest Pokemon GO update:

  • City
  • Mountain
  • Forest
  • Ocean
  • Lake
  • River
  • Park
  • Grassland

Each of these biomes will change given the weather, time of day, and the season. Trees in the background will change according to the season as well! For example, in spring, they will have cherry blossoms, in autumn, the leaves change to orange and yellow, and winter will bring leafless trees and snowy floors!

So far, the new biome update has been pretty accurate to the world around, and it is very exciting and interesting to explore within the world of Pokemon GO. Playing while traveling is now even more exciting now!
