Always a good mystery and a lot of fun with this series. Krista Davis is a very good writer. Wagtail is a town I’d love to visit with my three dogs, but I’m not certain they are well enough behaved. LOL

I'm not going to write a synopsis - others do it, and it IS included in the Amazon description. So let me get down to the nitty gritty. This story is pretty darn good. The only issue I had with it was not enough Holmes. He was kind of pushed out to the side, just making an occasional appearance.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a fan of the cozy mystery-slash-romance. Usually hate them. But the character of Holmes has been a welcome one, and he didn't get much time in this story at all.

Not enough Oma either. But it was nice to get more Rose, who I like.

I just love the town of Wagtail. It really is a fantasy town - one must suspend disbelief to embrace the notion - but what a nice notion it is!

I deducted a star because 1) no Holmes 2) a little TOO much all the meals served to the animals - I know the author does this in every book, but for some reason in this story it seemed a bit much and 3) sometimes it's hard to believe that the cat joins in on all the adventures.

Those are small annoyances and didn't hamper my enjoyment of the book - but also didn't add to it, either!

If you like the series, you won't be sorry to read this.

Another good entry in the Paws and Claws series by Krista Davis - if you like dog- and cat-centered cozies and a mystery that keeps you guessing til the end, you will have fun with this series. The series is set in Wagtail, a town that has reinvented itself as a pet-friendly vacation destination where people can bring their pets - which are allowed everywhere and never get into scraps with each other (although some hissing may occasionally surface). I admit, all these dogs and cats off leash causes me some anxiety. I'm always worried that someone will get lost. But the author does an excellent job of quickly keeping readers up to date on where the primary pets are (and that they're safe). The main character is Holly, whose rescue dog Trixie has a nose for dead bodies. If someone is murdered in Wagtail, Trixie will be the one to find them! A missing pet, a murdered pet detective, and a group of women in town to help stage a giant pet adoption event, provide enjoyable intrigue. The author does a good job of dropping clues here and there, but I was still kept guessing regarding "whodunit" until the very end. The author provides a list of characters at the beginning of the book. You will probably find this as helpful as I have - there are a lot of characters to keep track of!

My Favorite Fictional Town

Once again I found myself in the fictional town of Wagtail, the place I wish with all my heart was real so I could live there. This time, the ladies of Wagtail Animal Guardians (WAG for short) are there for the There's No Place Like Home Charity Gala. A monkey wrench gets thrown into the plans when a dead body shows up, and of course Holly and Trixie are smack dab in the middle.
As the story unfolds we find out some interesting history involving first one then another and another of these lovely ladies that connects them to Wagtail and to each other. There are seemingly other murder attempts made on the lives of a few others as the attempts to bring a killer to justice just keep adding to the suspect list. When the evidence points to one of Wagtails most loved and respected citizens, can Holly find a way to clear her or is this woman actually a cold blooded murderer? I kept changing my mind about who was guilty and must admit that I was VERY surprised at the end about who it was and story surrounding their motive for murder and attempted murder.
I enjoyed this book and once again find myself wishing Ms. Davis could pull the next book because I love the stories she created and I can't wait to go back to Wagtail!

I enjoy the Paws and Claws series. Trixie, the Jack Russel terrier, and Twinkletoes, the cat, are my favorite characters. They live at the Sugar Maple Inn with Holly. Trixie has the odd "specialty" of sniffing out murdered people. That again happens here during a visit from the Wag Tail Ladies (or was it Girls -- don't have the book next to me), and the mystery begins. At first, it's intriguing with a main character, Rose, the grandmother of Holly's boyfriend, Holmes, isn't acting in her normal manner. The animals are wonderful, but the backstory with the Wag Tail group (they rescue and save dogs and cats), is so convoluted that my interest waned during the last quarter of the novel. Ms. Davis could have explained the events with more clarity. However, it's worthwhile reading for anyone who loves animals, or is a fan of the series.

Oh how I've missed this series. I love all her series but I think this one is my favorite. I want to live in Wagtail. All the adventures are fantastic. This one had lots of twists nd turns which I really enjoy. I like that Holmes is living there and can keep helping Holly. I do not want this series to end. I can't wait for the next book.

In this story.more people come to visit Wgtail I'm. The WAG ladies plan a gala to raise money for the stray animals. What no one knows is that someone in town doesn't know their long lost relative resides there to. The disappearance of the judges German Shepard starts the ball rolling. Just like a snowball things get bigger and bigger. This, as all the books in the series, makes me wish there really was a Wagtail. I'm sure you will feel the same way once you read this book.
