Blue Buffalo is such a philanthropic company to be a part of! Pet Detectives are valued as a key part in sales and marketing. We are given a lot of paid training before starting and throughout to keep us educated on pet nutrition. Working as a college student is amazing for me as I can only work weekends. They paid for my adoption fees after adopting my dogs, they also provide a rebate for pet food every month. I’ve also had opportunities to work some of Blue’s other events such as dock diving events and store grand openings! My manager is the best I have ever had, and I hope as I move on to become a manager I can be as wonderful as he is! And of course. You get to see puppies every day!
Short shifts, only weekends, philanthropic company
Most of the day is spent standing around the aisles where the company products are located and talking to pet owners about switching to Blue Buffalo. However, depending on what location you are in the store employees or managers won't even give you the time of day. Once the company had us work in grocery stores it was a mass exodus of employees leaving to look for better employment. Our manager was an extremely nice and generous guy who let you switch shifts or take days off for personal needs. It was not his fault for the companies horrendous business decisions regarding the pet detective program. The pay is decent but not enough to live on. In order to make the full amount a week you need to work around 5 days with either 4-8 hour shifts. Some stores you work in the staff and managers are very welcoming and will make the time fly by.
Schedule and being around pets
Changing locations, store employees, and pay.
It's an easy job if you can manage yourself and like pets. There is no commission, but you are expected to keep track of your sales. It can be boring during slow days and crazy during the holidays. Overall, it's a great job to make some extra income. It's not a full-time job with healthcare benefits.
Easy Money, Dogs
Boring, No Healthcare
So the pay is decent for the job- it's not high pay or anything, but you're also not doing that much work. The main problem I had with this job is just how awkward it is. The management is super out of touch with what works in customer service. The job basically entails standing around a store and talking to customers about the product. The thing is- 90% of pet owners already have a dog or cat food brand they are loyal to, and simply aren't interested in listening to what you have to say. They provide no incentive to make people listen to you (such as free samples or coupons). You just awkwardly linger around for a few hours and it's mostly pointless. Also, the store managers can be cold to you since you're a third party employee and Blue Buffalo management won't do anything about it. In conclusion- if you're just looking to make some extra money, then by all means go for this job. But be prepared for a lot of awkward moments, because the management's ideas are terrible.
Decent pay, easy work
Boring, methods don't work, problems with management
Work-life balanceBeen amazing to my family and I through covid19. Well supplied with PPE and the essential things needed to stay safe. My management has been so compassionate towards my family and I as well. Just wanna thank my employer for being the best job I've ever had:)Pay & benefitsVery competitive pay! For part time job.ManagementExcellent management!!!!CultureGreat place to work!OverallHas been a great job! Good pay always paid on time! Lots of resources for guidance and support. Yes it's a part time job but you get to work on your own and not have to worry about being supervised, just follow rules and they are very supportive towards there hardworking employees.
Nothing but superlatives to say about this Company. Going and growing and treats employees fairly. Have been with them for a while. Have nothing bad to say about this Company. Have always treated me well.Wish I could own more of their stock as they're going and growing.
Treats employees well right across the board.
Would like to see the hourly rate boosted just a bit.

The best part time job I've ever had. No high pressured sales. Just brand awareness. Not to mention an endless supply of puppies and kittens you get to pet.
Good pay. Management is attentive and always positive.
There are none.
Pushed to sell a brand of food, with minimal information if its content or how it benefits the pet. All training regarding food content was given in an hour, only after I asked multiple questions. You're just thrown into a store and required to sell different products no breaks continous standing/walking. Compensation was slighty higher than average, but needed to travel to multiple cities for different stores.
Possiblity of 401k as PT, discounts
Insufficient training, lawsuits hinder credibility and thus lower sales
A typical day of work would include, talking to pet parents, providing information about products, and suggesting certain products based on details about pets. I learned a lot working for this company, and continue to learn more every day. Management is always happy to help and encourage you! I enjoy everything about this job, I get to talk to pet parents about their fur babies, I get to meet new pets daily, and this company truly cares about each and every one of their employees.
I have been with Blue Buffalo as a part-time "Pet Detective" for over 10 years and it still doesn't really feel much like a job because I truly enjoy being able to help people find the right product for their pets and helping pets live healthier lives. Beyond making a good product, this is a great company to work for if you're looking for a part-time, primarily weekend position. The compensation is competitive and the position has some flexibility to work around your schedule if you have a full-time job. Blue Buffalo treats its employees extremely generously. During the COVID-19 pandemic, rather than laying people off because there is no ability to work in the stores as a Pet Detective, Blue Buffalo is paying even its part-time employees their average wages. Over the years, my full-time job has sometimes interfered with my part-time scheduling. Blue Buffalo has always been understanding and worked with me to keep me on the team. It's easy to work for a company when you feel like the company genuinely wishes to do good work and provide a good product. This is a very rewarding and enjoyable job for those who are passionate about pets and their people!
This job used to be so fun and rewarding then they took away pet store hours for more grocery and it became miserable. Boring, customers that want nothing to do with you, and store members that make you feel unwanted.
Good pay/flexible hours
Boring and not enjoyable
They never told us they were being bought out by another company and that was tacky bc I was lying to folks that it was still family owned that put me in a bad place in my mind also they cater to employees they like and it’s wrong
Unfair treatment with employees. And lied about buyout by omission.
I loved being a product specialist (pet detective) for Blue Buffalo. It is a unique job which gives the employee a lot of control on how to perform on their job (since you work on your own). I really loved that. The product itself is very top notch quality and definitely worth it and they pay you well to introduce this product to clients. The only thing I am saddened is that this a job you should do as a side job because there is no moving up in the company. As well, very few hour for the same reason that it is a job that is very specific. My manager was, however, a hard working person who cared about Blue Buffalo and his employees.
I worked for Blue Buffalo for over 11 1/2 years. It was great for 10 years when the family owned it but it was sold to General Mills 2 years ago. Then EVERYTHING changed. The management changed. It is still great cat and dog food, and I truly enjoyed helping pet parents with their dogs and cats. You will be required to work weekends.
Working with Blue Buffalo as a Pet Detective has been fun, interesting, and fulfilling. I have a pet now which makes me more relatable to the Pet Parents I assist and meet. Great stores with helpful customer service pet advisors who love their jobs.
