So, I love to meet actors from shows like this and see if they’re cool in person as themselves as well. That being said, who all from the Buffy (or Angel) show have you met and spoken briefly to? I met Xander and the woman who plays Glory. Both were very friendly and sweet. I’ve heard James Marsters is... not so much.
The Cast in Real Life
James marsters was the sweetest. Talked to him briefly, got his autograph, and a hug
I am very glad to hear this report! <3
He is? Oh no. Explain?
People dismiss what they don't want to know. James' creepish behavior at cons isn't discussed these days, either.
Well, I know he got tired of being asked to take his shirt off and challenged the fan to do the same & when the lady started doing it he didn't say anything.
Idk I didn’t know either of these things lol
OR briefly dating this wa s legal of course but he wasn't straight with her either 19-year old Mercedes when he was about 40?
Honestly, I don’t care about a lot of the details like that. Never have, never will. I do admit that is an important detail to consider if you are considering those type of details. If true, that’s definitely gross and worthy mentioning.
Of all I’ve met, Amber Benson was by far the nicest. Charisma Carpenter seemed really fake to me, almost as if she didn’t want to be there. Juliet Landau was just as crazy in real life and was hilarious to talk to especially when she started talking about Ms. Edith 😂. Nicholas Brendon was really chilled as was Danny Strong and Tom Lenk. I wasn’t able to catch Warren (sorry can’t think of his name) but wasn’t too bummed about that. Tony Head was a proper gentleman who absolutely adores Buffy fans.
As for James Marsters, you had to pay extra to meet him and he had his own private room so bystanders couldn’t take photos so I’m not sure what he’s like but I wasn’t too fussed about meeting him.
The only other person I really desperately want to meet though is Joss
I was expecting to feel that way about Charisma Carpenter based on a friend's experience, but honestly - I was blown away. I had a great experience with her a couple years ago.
It was as soon as the con opened and I was the only one in her line at that time. I handed her S3 to sign and she asked if I a) wanted anything specific (I had her write Hello, Salty Goodness) and b) if I preferred Cordelia on Angel or Buffy.
Then, we chatted about an episode of Angel I had just watched with a first time viewer friend and she said the name of the episode before I could.
I've honestly had a great experience with everyone I've met (16 cast members, I think) except Mercedes McNab, and I want to give her the benefit of the doubt it was just an off day.

Perhaps I caught her on one of her off-days too. She was polite enough to me but her smiles and small talk just seemed a bit forced and she outright refused a photo. But I wasn’t too bothered, I met her after I’d [literally] bumped into Maggie Grace and almost sent her flying so I was pretty buzzing at that point 😂
Haha! That is unfortunate, but hopefully it was just an off day. And I'm with you, I'd love to meet Joss!
If I met Joss I don't think I'd be able to stop myself form saying "Hey, man, I'm a big ex-fan of yours." (I'm 9 years older than he is so any deference i feel towards him is to talent.)
Same or David Greenwalt.
I don't think they're close friends in real life but Charisma and Amber seem to have this great synergy at cons and panels.
Having to pay extra comes from the convention. They think he is a bigger draw so they will charge more
Yeah as you can see, I laid no blame on James for that and the convention did hype is attendance so what you’re saying makes sense
I thought Juliet Landau would be. I hope to meet her one day. I’ve been feeling bad since I don’t remember a lot of the actors names very shamefully, but for the most part I know who you are talking about. Was sad to hear about David’s extramarital shenanigans. I hate when the hero is not actually a hero (but we must manage our expectations accordingly). I generally feel that it is okay to charge for a photo and autograph (as long as it is reasonable price point wise) since most of those actors don’t have major gigs anymore and I understand that Stan Lee’s price made sense because he had so many fans that it would be hard to see them all so there had to be an equalizer to make things more fair for him and die hard fans.
I had no problem paying for the autographs and for a photo, it was money well spent. Buffy was a huge part of my childhood so I happily paid. I don’t remember it being a lot, think it was like £20-30 per person
I think David has worked through that; as far as I know he and Jaime are still happy together.
Charisma seems very subject to ups and downs form con stories I've heard.
Was this while she was on Buffy or when she had transitioned to Angel? If it was while she was on Angel, her attitude might be more explainable because she was mad at Joss Whedon and there was bad blood between the two of them for a good while.
This was after both shows had finished
Yeah, she not have been happy to be there. She was really unhappy with what Joss did with her character.
I've met 16 cast members and they've all been delightful (except Mercedes McNab, and I want to give her the benefit of the doubt it was just an off day).
Specifically, ASH (Giles), Amy Acker (Fred), and Emma Caulfield (Anya) stand out to me. ASH, I was super hyped to meet, and he did not disappoint. I had no expectations with Amy or Emma and they were both so adorably personable.
James Marsters - I met him for the first time at WhendonCon a couple years ago and it was kind of a blur. He was super nice, it was just a quick experience though. The next time was during the group photo op at Wizard World Portland last year and he specifically shook my hand and said, "It is so nice to see you again" and I was shocked. Then, like a month after that, I saw him at Lexington Comic Con and he remembered me again. I kind of have one of those faces, so idk if he really recognized me or not, but all three times, he was nothing but pleasant. And honestly, he is great to watch during panels because he is a great storyteller.
I’ve only met James (maybe 5-6 years ago?) and it was a good experience.
I paid for his autograph. I brought his Spike comic for him to sign. I made some sort of comment like “not everyone has their own comic book” and he said “you know sometimes I have to pinch myself!” Somehow we started talking about Star Trek, of which he’s a big fan and I asked how he liked the new ones. He said he did but he’s a bigger fan of the original. He said “I’m old.” Also, I was with my husband who is also named James. I had a Spike calendar hanging on my wall back when hubby and I started dating. I said to hubby “Sorry dear. This was the first James in my life.” And then James Marsters said something like “It’s ok dude. My wife is really into that guy from True Blood. And sometimes we are at the same cons together and I could probably get his autograph for her. But I don’t. Because I hate that guy!” It was very funny.
So no idea what he’s like in his personal life but the one time I met him he was very engaging and seemed genuinely appreciative of his fans.
Haha! I love this story! Did he indicate which guy from True Blood? I'm guessing Eric/ Alexander Skarsgard!
Honestly I think he used the guy’s name but knowing nothing about True Blood then or now I promptly forgot. He played a vampire I think. But that might not narrow it down...
My friend and I have met Amber, Emma, Charisma, Nick, James, Clare, and Armin.
Every one of them was friendly but if we had to rate it on a scale Amber, Armin, and James have definitely been the nicest out of everyone. Emma was cool too, we chatted about the Alien franchise for a minute.
I will have less preconceived notions about James now, so thank you. I would like to meet as many as you!
Tom Lenk was so funny and gave me a hug and loved talking about his time as Andrew
I also met Alyson Hannigan who looked really happy and proud when praised for being willow and also gave me a big hug
LOVE THEM
I met Amber Benson, was a great experience.
So essentially no one has met SMG? I’m new to the Buffyverse so I’ve never been to a con, but she never makes an appearance? It seems like not a lot of fans knows how she is really, just usually rumors of things. Just curious
She's never been big on such personal appearances, even for her baking business.
I haven’t heard anything. Maybe she has, maybe she did early on and had a bad experience with some Uber Fans.
I don't remember anything in particular, but I think that I've heard that she isn't as nice as some castmates. She is the reason the show ended, from what I understand. I read it could have gone another two seasons, but she said no. She has talked of how demanding it was to film. I have the impression that the show is bitter sweet for her.
Super late here, I need to browse the sub more, but I met her once while the show was still on. she was shopping at the mall I worked at. She was...I wouldn't say mean but...cold. Like she didn't really want to have much to do with any of it. I didn't totally fanboy out or anything, either. It was a real mellow "Hey, cool, I love the show, it's really cool to meet you" with a sort of no-eye contact "ok, thanks" kind of response. I'd heard stories from some of the people I worked with who moonlighted as extras say she was a pill on set and my experience with her seemed to support that.
Somehow I just saw this tonight but thought I'd add my experience. I met SMG once, this is how that went down: I met her once while the show was still on. she was shopping at the mall I worked at. She was...I wouldn't say mean but...cold. Like she didn't really want to have much to do with any of it. I didn't totally fanboy out or anything, either. I didn't meet him myself but my ex met James Marsters once and said he was a real asshole. Of course, my personal history there would tell me not to believe anything she said especially when she's talking about other men...but that's neither here nor there.
I've met Amber Benson several times and she's always the nicest, sweetest person in the world and I can only imagine she has to get tired of people like fanboying out when we see her but she always acts like she's happy to see you, too and to be fair she does remember me every time I see her so that's cool.
