The Tavern meatloaf was so oversalted it bordered on unedible. Cold and damp. Fireplace not lit. Too dark to read menu. Ehen my drink didn't arrive, the server said I had never ordered it. Ageism? Rude.

A really disappointing evening here. We booked after looking at the menu online and decided to book The Tavern, as the menu was a la carte and a bit more traditional. When we arrived we were taken down to a cold, atmosphere-less, dark, basement; and told that we were had to have the 80 dollar pp fixed price set menu, and that the Tavern menu on their website was 5 years out of date!! There was nothing that I liked or wanted on the fixed price starters list, so had to have a bland tomato salad. The scallop main course was very nice however. The meal was definitely not worth 80 dollars pp! And we would have much rather sat upstairs in the main dining room if we had to have that menu anyway!! Out of my week in the Hamptons, having had some wonderful meals, this was my least favourite; and I would highly recommend that you go elsewhere for dinner! The waiter was kind and tried to be helpful.

While guests at the inn, we ate at the Tavern (downstairs) twice, and it's delightful! The first time I got the meatloaf (it's Ina's favorite, after all), which was awesome. But the second time, I got the burger and the heavens opened and angels sang. It's GOOD, y'all. I'm from Texas and no stranger to red meat, but this burger was divine. Since getting home, we have joked about flying back to NY just for this burger. The Tavern is very charming and definitely worth a visit if you're staying at the inn or anywhere nearby in EH. Good drinks, too!

I’ve loved this restaurant for years. Consistently outstanding food, very friendly knowledgeable staff and overall great dining experience. After a one year absence, we were excited about having a great dining experience. I don’t know what happened. Our waiter was robotic but competent. We all had a difficult time finding anything we wanted on the menu. None of us was disappointed but the wow factor was gone. The general manager whom I’ve known for 20 years ignored us. Not bad. Just not what it used to be. Would be depressing to go back.

My wife and I have been dining here for many years, throughout the year. Sometime we are joined by our adult son. 1770 House is our go-to place for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions. Also when we just feel like treating ourselves. Decor is terrific. Food is ways wonderful. Service is always professional. although prices are on the high side, because of the quality, the service, and the timeless decor, it's actually a good value. Most recent visit was in August 2022 for my wife's birthday. There was a major event going on in town, so 1770 was less busy than usual for height of the summer season. It was our good fortune to to have Ed waiting on us. He is a real professional!!

My friends and I were supposed to come last November for my birthday but couldn’t due to Covid. We were so excited to finally make it this year. We were seated in the beautiful fireplace room while we waited for dinner water ice to be set up. It was warm and comfortable. When we were seated were immediately greeted and when my friend couldn’t decide on the wine she would like, they graciously brought her a taste of two. The tasting menu had so many good choices it was hard to decide. I had the sashimi, squash soup, and swordfish. The food was delicious and the service friendly and attentive. I can’t wait to go back. It was so classy.

Now under the ownership of a19 year old living in Colorado , the experience is the worst . The arrogant sommelier /manager would not respond to our comments that the fish was inedible and the steak and lamb was over salted . Buyer beware how you want to spend your 600 dollars . Oh and the waitress was afraid like a deer in the headlights Their reputation will co tongue to decline

Always excellent food for years. Waitstaff know their wines and pair them well with the menu. The Tavern is terrific summer and winter. I return year after year.

We went to 1770 last night, and love so much we came back for the dinner tonight. We order a wine, and was really bad wich we refuse it, the waiter reaction was really bad about it. It's a shame because the food was really good , but the waiter and his attitude brought the hole experience down.

My wife and I had an amazing experience here. The host has a great sense of humor, she was very sweet. She was a great start to our day with information we needed to complete our day and activities. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and airy. Our room had sunshine galore with great views of the garden and outdoor patio. The location was a quick walk from all East Hampton has to offer. Would def recommend and we will be back!

Wine was icy cold, the food had no taste, the waiter was invasive and overdid it. Save your money and skip the place....

We spent a week in East Hampton and this was by far the best meal we had. Our service was impeccable and the quality of the meal was perfection. The acorn soup with venison was my favorite! And the filet mignon was cooked perfectly at medium rare. It will be my first dinner once we return for our next visit to the area.

Disappointing all around. First of all, they don't have any arrangements for parking. When we arrived for our table at 9 pm, we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated - ok, that happens. When seated our table was in front of two doors, and so it was freezing. They moved us but the problem was that the room was cold - by the time we left they had the heat turned on.... Food was ok, nothing special but really rushed. They brought the first courses out around 5 minutes after we ordered and then right away. Drinks were mediocre -- they did not have the wine I ordered and then the wine by the glass was quite poor - not sure what it actually was since they did not show me the bottle before they poured it (as is done in most restaurants). I would definitely skip this place...
