Are You Obsessed With Dating Apps or Sites?

It seems as if online dating is the most popular way people meet now. I am actually more surprised when I meet a couple that didn't meet online now. No matter how practical and convenient online dating might be, it still doesn't mean it is healthy to use dating sites all the time. It also doesn't mean it is a good idea to join every single dating site out there. Sometimes you can become obsessed with online dating.

Have you ever wondered how you can tell if you are using online dating sites too much? Thankfully, I am here to help you. Check out some obvious signs that you might need to resist the urge to join every online dating site—you might need to slow down with logging in all the time.

1. You Are Using Sites That Don't Even Apply to You

If you are joining every single dating site out there and half of them don't even apply to you, it is time to cool it. Perhaps you need to take a step back and evaluate why you, a 25-year-old, 100-pound white woman, are trying to sign up for sites like "50 and Over Singles," "Black and Beautiful," and "Big Girls Need Love Too."

Let's face it, you might have a problem if you belong to 10 or more dating sites. Perhaps just two or three at a time would be a good idea.

2. You Are Recognized on the Streets

If you are walking down the street one day, minding your own business, and a guy comes up to you and asks for your autograph, you might be an Online Dating Legend. If the guy tells you, "My friends and I have been scoping out your many profiles for years. You are SweetiePie1999! I can't believe I am really meeting you!"

Not only is this super creepy, but it is also time to reconsider your profile name and your ability to ever get a date. Every now and then, you need to stop using your profile, take some time off from online dating, and then create a new profile. This is especially the case if the year you joined is in your screen name and that year was 5 years ago.

3. You Start Resenting Shirtless Guys

Let's face it, if you are a woman using an online dating site, you have seen lots and lots of shirtless guys. Some guys are really hot but conceited because they have at least five shirtless pics in their profile. Other guys are just scaring women away with an inability to realize being extremely overweight and shirtless is not helping them find a date.

You know you have been visiting too many online dating profiles if you have this conversation with a friend:

You: "I am so tired of all these shirtless guys! What is wrong with them?"

Friend: "Ummm ... we're at the beach. This is pretty normal."

4. You Are Creating a Waitlist for Dates

You are probably using too many online dating websites if you can't even keep up with all your dates. If you have even considered making a spreadsheet to keep up with potential dates, you have a problem. If you are creating a waitlist for everyone that wants to date you, you also have issues. If you've even told some potential dates that you are adding him to a waitlist, seek help now! It is time to stop logging into dating sites so much.

5. You Start Recognizing Guys You've Seen on Dating Sites

If you are sitting in a bar with one of your friends and many of the guys in the bar start to look familiar to you, you are probably using too many online dating sites. It is considerably worse if this conversation occurs:

Friend: "Oh, that guy is totally cute over there!"

You: "Oh yeah, that is Frank. He likes dining out, NASCAR, and collecting comic books."

Friend: "Do you know him?"

You: "Nope. That is BeansAndFrank82 from Plenty of Fish."

Yes, this is just one more subtle way to tell you are using dating sites too much. Plenty of folks use dating sites on and off for years. However, it is just a little sad and a bit obsessive if you've been using many sites for years without any type of break. It is time to take a break now! Trust me, you will thank me one day.
