Went here before s show at the Opera House and it was packed! Staff really hustling to serve everyone before showtime. Food was excellent. I had the fried chicken and my wife the prime rib sandwich. Great beer selection and really nice ambience. Great adaptive...reuse of a historic old building!More

You will not be disappointed with anything you order here. We were eating and partying celebrating a recent wedding of friends. Good choice of beers, too.

Wow, what a treasure! Our first inside dining experience since Covid after a nearby gallery opening on a Friday evening and we were blown away. The staff is terrific -- graciously welcoming and highly knowledgeable of the nuances of the menu and bar selections. Locally...sourced fare and we appreciate the opportunity to support and celebrate that. The fried curds were the best we've ever had and the delicate light breading was so good we vowed to return for the fish fry. We split two of the signature sandwiches and both were outstanding. This is thoughtfully executed creative cooking --- not gimmickry with goofy ingredients or misguided fusion nonsense. This kitchen knows how to meld flavors to create something special. Really impressive. The space reflects the same kind of understated simple sophistication. We'll definitely be back and we'll bring our favorite houseguests when they visit. Well done Wendigo, you're great at what you do!More

The restaurant is pretty and the atmosphere's wonderful. Very disappointed in the food we were seated immediately and given a menu when we went to order some of the options we wanted to order they were out of. The drinks that we wanted to order...they didn't have the material to make the drinks. When we ordered our food we chose to start with cheese curds . They were phenomenal! The chicken strips that I ordered were literally way overcooked and parts of them were almost black. When I broke into the chicken strip even the meat was brown and hard. I did order a side salad with vinaigrette dressing but when you poured the vinaigrette dressing onto the salad and the chicken strips were right there everything mesh together which was even worse. It would have been nice if the side salad was served in its own little bowl. My son-in-law ordered the saffron rice/ chicken. The chicken was so salty hardly could eat it. And there was no saffron in the saffron rice. We then also ordered the short ribs which were very salty and very tough. So we were very disappointed in the food for what we had to pay for it. The waitress seemed very overwhelmed and didn't come and check on us asked if we needed more things to drink we had to flag her down to voice are concerns over the food. I think I'd probably give them a little time to get there things in order and get the kitchen in order. The bread that was served with the chicken was burnt black on the bottom so when we turned it over to eat it it was hard as a rock. Most of the food that we got should never have come out of the kitchen. But the cheese curds were great.More

Pros-My husband’s burger was excellent; staf and promptness was good. The cons - I ordered Coconut Curry Rice Noodles. There was no detectable coconut or curry in the dish. It was very, very bland. Steamed squash, green beans and mushrooms with rice noodles topped with...some chopped cilantro, which provided some much needed flavor. The vegetables were perfectly cooked. The sauce seemed to be the steaming water. Not recommended. My beverage was described as a seasonal Old Fashioned with cinnamon apple brandy, a cherry, orange slice, apple slice, and bitters. Oddly, and not listed on the menu, it also contained ginger beer. Old Fashioneds should be warm and richly flavored with the brandy, bourbon, or whiskey predominant. The bright sharpness of the ginger beer fought with the brandy and cancelled out the warm flavors. It wasn’t an Old Fashioned and it wasn’t a Mule. It was a confusing mess. Not recommended.More

We have eaten there once out of three attempts; we enjoyed our meal. Reservation requests can be made online BUT evidently it’s hit or Miss as to whether anyone will look at the requests. There is an automated response acknowledging the request including a statement...that notification will come via email. The truth is that may or may not happen.More

Based on ratings and our enjoyment of fresh local foods, we wanted to meet friends at Wendigo on a Saturday night recently. I emailed to make a reservation and asked which entrance to use with my wheelchair. To my utter amazement when inquiring, they replied...that there is no wheelchair accessibilty! This is in direct violation of Federal Law. ADA regulations are are not optional! We drove past the location and there are five or six steps to get into the restaurant. They did not reply to my email informing them of ADA rules, nor did they apologize.More

It really wasn't a good experience. The less-is-more aesthetics (menu, decoration, website, etc.), failed as it came across as lazy decorating. The walls are adorned with outside art (nicer than the place), and some random garage sale farm decor with typical country farm tables and...chairs. It's on the main drag in Stoughton. The wait was short and were seated within the time they told us. We took 3 steps to the bar while we waited for our table and got drinks and a Snack Plate to tide us over and told the bartender to add it to our bill. The Apple Old Fashioned was too sweet to finish, but the snack plate was good and enough for 4 people. We had to grab our snack plate and drinks as we were taken to our table. The hostess said our server would be right with us... and we sat for about 20 minutes before we asked a server to track down our server. We finished the snack plate, read our menus, kept looking at servers passing us, stared at the server serving the table next to us and even talking about how we haven't seen a server while the person was serving the table next to us! That table also had a food delay and drink mistake. After flagging someone down, all the servers seemed to disappear and it took 5 minutes, no joke, before an apologetic server greeted us. Once we ordered (almost 9pm), the timing of the food was a bit longer than average: appetizer came within 15 minutes (really? The place was clearing out). The entrees came about 20 minutes after that. I had the Pickled & Fried appetizer and it was tangy and fried well, but too oily. The Sea Bream Piccata was very salty and not reminiscent of piccata. The fish was decent, and not subject to the salty, stiff rice pilaf on the bottom. The "roasted red peppers" tasted similar to the pickled ones I had fried. The Chicken & "Dumplings" was more like a Salty Poultry Seasoning Stew with shredded chicken in a thick, gloopy sauce with gnocchi as the "dumplings." The parmesan gnocchi added to the saltiness. Our server was good once we had one. She checked in on us and her timing was good and was not overly-apologetic, which could be annoying in itself. She certainly was at the mercy of the kitchen for our food timing. Our bill was missing the snack plate and when we pointed this out she didn't offer a discount for the wait or made an exception, she thanked us and added it. The table next to us got free drinks for a mistake. We were there an hour and 45 minutes. The art in the place garnered the 1 star. This is the place to go if you have burned out your taste buds with a highly salted, highly seasoned diet rich in frying oil. I couldn't tell if the food products are so bad they need to be over seasoned, or if the chefs lack ability to balance the actual food to seasoning by drowning the food in salt and seasonings? Service was bad, but who cares when your one chance to make an impression is every customer you have. Overall, we won't be back.More

We’ve visited Wendigo three times since moving to Stoughton last fall and it never disappoints! The old building with quirky art adds an urban vibe. Craft beers and specialty drinks have been delicious. The cheese curds are some of the best we have ever had...and being Wisconsin natives, that’s saying a lot! The menu is limited but unique. Green bean casserole as a side? Yum! We’ve tried different entrees and they have all been fresh and flavorful. A favorite of ours is the Wendi Melt.More

We ended up here by accident, but we were thrilled with the result! The menu is very eclectic... though somewhat limited, there are a few must-try's on the menu. The sage roasted chicken is a home run.. absolutely amazing. The drinks are a little too...out there for our taste, but I'm sure others would enjoy. They do this one item (the chicken) so well, that's all we've ever tried! :) can't wait to have it again!More

This is one of my favorite places to eat. Not only is their food unique and delicious, but I also admire that they use local farmers, that is a huge plus for me! Another neat thing is that they always have these beautiful animals paintings...on display, and I recently found out that they are also from a local artist that sells them too! They also have some really good cocktails.More

We like the old interior with high ceiling and a small performance stage, also changing art display (for sale). Food is local and delicious. Small plates, burgers, plates to share, and several vegetarian options.

My wife and I have eaten at Wendigo two times in the past 6 months. Both times we were on our way to a show at the Opera House for an evening show. We had reservations at 6 and told our server that we would...need to be out by 7:15 for our show and he was very accommodating. The plates tend to be of a larger size. We order a salad, snack plate and an order of the meatballs. Everything was great and we left with a doggy bag as we could not finish all of the meatball dish. The beer was great. The service was great. The space is great. My only piece of advice is to make a reservation as the first time that we went to Wendigo we were not able to eat there as it was the night of a show at the Opera house and they did not have an open table until after the start time. Plan ahead and eat a good meal before a good show.More
