Kennett Mushroom Festival tops a fest-filled weekend [Events roundup]

The following events are planned for the week ahead throughout the region:

• The 37th annual Kennett Square Mushroom Festival will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along State Street. The family-fun event will include famous breaded mushrooms, a mushroom growers tent, savory mushroom soup, a mushroom eating contest, cooking demonstrations, a cooking contest, a classic and antique car show (Saturday only) vendors, children’s rides and more. Music headliners include the Dan and Dan Band on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Andrew Lipke and the Azrael String Quartet on Sunday at 3 p.m. Entry to the festival is $5 per person. • The 46th annual Hay Creek Fall Festival is set for Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily on the grounds of Historic Joanna Furnace, Route 10, Morgantown. Visitors will experience what life was like 200 years ago in the quaint ironmaking community of Joanna Furnace. The festival features over 1,500 volunteers bringing together two centuries of history with authentic demonstrations of early American trades and crafts, mechanical technology exhibits, old time music and a modern craft and antique market. Reenactors from the 69th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry will be setting up a Civil War encampment and telling the story of a soldier’s life, plus offering daily firing demonstrations in the town square. The festival is known for its homemade foods, including  Mabel’s kettle soups, ice cream, sausage and turkey sandwiches, funnel cakes, breads, baked goods and fresh pressed apple cider. • The Radnor Hunt Concourse D’Elegance car show will be held Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Radnor Hunt Club, Malvern. Historic, classic, race and antique vehicles of all eras complete the show field of approximately 150 cars and motorcycles. There will be a display of horse-drawn coaches and carriages, as well as a performance by the Radnor Hunt Fox Hounds. A New Car Automotive Paddock will showcase the latest makes and models. The Shoppes d’Elegance will feature food, clothing and lifestyle vendor tents. Tickets are $60 for adults, $30 for ages 13-17, and free for ages 12 and younger, with proceeds benefitting Thorncroft Equestrian Center in Malvern. For more information, see radnorconcours.org.

• The 26th annual Chile Pepper Food Festival is set for Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at William Delong Park, Bowers. The event features pepper-eating contests, a salsa contest, chef demonstrations, chile pepper and heirloom tomato field excursions, live music and dozens of vendors offering sauces, specialty foods and prepared foods. • The Doylestown Arts Festival will take over the quaint, historic streets of Doylestown on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. With art, music and activities for all ages, the festival will continue its mission to highlight independent artists, support small businesses and raise awareness of the local cultural scene. The normally bustling Main Street, State Street, Hamilton Street and Oakland Avenue will be transformed into an outdoor marketplace featuring works by more than 150 independent artists. There will be five stages of music, along with interactive demonstrations including a kids’ zone, face painting, sand art and wet plate photography. Admission is free. • “Star Trek Screen-Used Props and Costumes,” a collection of items from one of the most iconic programs in television history, comes to the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center, West Chester, beginning Thursday and continuing through Nov. 27. The exhibition offers a unique collection of screen-used and production-made artifacts that spans decades, including costumes, weapons, communicators, even pieces of the starship Enterprise. The exhibit also features an accompanying Speaker’s Series via Zoom that costs $25 per event (members are free) with five authors: Nancy Reagin (“Star Trek and History”) on Sept. 15, A.J. Black (“Star Trek, History, and Us”) on Sept. 24, Lawrence Krauss (“The Physics of Star Trek”) on Oct. 19, Daniel Chavkin and Brian McGuire (“Star Trek: Designing the Final Frontier”) on Nov. 2 and Sherilyn Connelly (“The First Star Trek Movie: Bringing the Franchise to the Big Screen”) on Nov. 16. • The summer concert season at Pat Garrett Amphitheater, Strausstown, winds down with a performance by Echoes: The American Pink Floyd on Saturday at 8 p.m. The parking lot and venue gates open at 6 p.m. Concessions and bars are available inside the venue. Take along chairs and blankets for lawn seating. Tickets are $30 in advance at patgarrettamphitheater.com, or $40 at the gate.

• The Music Under the Stars series at the Upper Merion Township Parks Building presents Brett Dennen with opener Kate Dressed Up on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Dennen has cemented himself as a fixture on the folk music scene throughout his decade-plus career as a singer-songwriter with a successful string of albums and Top Ten AAA singles, including “Make You Crazy,” “Wild Child” and “Already Gone.” The venue offers a beer garden with local craft brews and cocktails, and food trucks will be onsite. Take along chairs and blankets for lawn seating. Tickets are $20 for ages 13 and older and can be reserved at umtownship.org.

• The Berks County Music Fest will be held Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. at Mohnton Memorial Park. Scheduled to perform, in order of appearance, are the Uptown Band, Smith Compound Band and the Large Flowerheads. There will also be solo performances by Emme Ryan and Drew Thomas Snyder. Food and drink will be available for purchase, including beer and wine by the glass. The event is rain or shine. Bring along a chair or blanket. Tickets are $20 at the gate, and free for ages 17 and younger. The adjacent Berks Military History Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free admission. • The South Wayne PorchFest will run from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday along the streets of South Wayne. Musicians will be performing free of charge on porches along St. Davids Road from the corner of St. Davids and Orchard Way to the corner of Windermere Avenue and Louella Avenue, and in the 300-400 blocks of Midland Avenue. • The Pines Dinner Theatre, Allentown, will stage “I Left My Heart: A Salute to the Music of Tony Bennett” from Friday through Oct. 23. Sprinkled throughout with biographical tidbits and anecdotes, the show features four decades of music that Bennett recorded, from his early Top 40 hits, jazz recordings with Basie, Stan Getz and Bill Evans, to his torch songs, film scores, all the way to his MTV unplugged, which introduced him to a whole new generation of listeners.  Show times are Thursdays 12:30 p.m. dinner, 1:30 p.m. show; Fridays and Saturdays, 6:30 p.m. dinner, 7:30 p.m. show; and Sundays 12:30 p.m. dinner and 1:30 p.m. show. Ticket prices for show admission are $32 for adults, and $22 for ages 2-12, which includes a seat for the show, all taxes and box-office fees. • The Soundbank, Phoenixville, is hosting a Blues Revival on Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. with music by Sister Blue, Billy the Kid & the Regulators, Chris Antonik and Noah Wotherspoon.
