I LOVE the film, but get the 96 minutes standard edition. The 100 minute Totally Awesome Edition adds nothing to the film and, in fact, detracts by going on and on about the main character's childhood anatomy and a couple other snide remarks that just made the movie a little more crude for the sake of a joke. Wish I didn't buy this. This isn't the WeddingSinger you remember, plus the noise reduction makes all the characters look a little unnatural. The DVD and VHS versions are better that this edition.
One of my favorite movies as a kid. Watched it recently a few drinks in. I was actually impressed as an adult to see how well written and acted this movie is. They compress time and move the convincing love story along at such a great pace. Also it's effin hilarious, and who doesn't want to stare into Drew Barrymore's eyes for an hour and a half.
This is the first Barrymore/Sandler collaboration and it would prove to be a successful formula. Set in the awesome 80s it centers around Robbie Hart played by an awesome Adam Sandler, he's an awesome weddingsinger and an all around nice guy. He's engaged to be married and ends up left at the altar. He ends up beginning a friendship with a waitress named Julia played by a lovable Drew Barrymore whose engaged to a douchebag. They of course end up falling for eachother and hilarious problems ensue. The film is truly a perfect romantic comedy. No matter how many times I watch it, I still get so into it. Hilarious, heartfelt and classic.
IMO Drew Barrymore & Adam Sandler are one of the best on screen rom-com couples! I only wish they made movies together more often than every 10 years as I also enjoy the other 2 movies they made together too. Many laugh out loud moments in this movie along with sweet romantic moments too, and of course if you grew up in the '80's, or just love that decade, then you'll enjoy the nostalgia of the movie as well. Great soundtrack, and it also has one of my favorite movie endings too.
Our wedding-singing star has had an interesting career. This film seems to mark his transition into the more modern, sometimes disgusting, movies we see today. This film was still miles better than those. When local weddingsinger Robbie Hart, played by Sandler, is dumped by his fiancée the day after their wedding that she didn't show up for, he spirals down into a nervous breakdown that sadly is fun to watch. Along the way, he befriends Julia Sullivan, played by Drew Barrymore, a waitress preparing for her own wedding to Australian businessman Glenn Gulia, played by Matthew Glave (yes, they do point out the future couple's name situation.) Their relationship blossoms and feelings soon develop, all while the wedding plans move right on ahead. This film has the corny moments that many of Adam Sandler's early films were known for, but they were sweet and the plane scene at the end was especially fun. While he is childish at times this is a version of Sandler that can be more easily related to as opposed to his later characters. That makes the film better and more engaging...and again, the corniness, which is sometimes extreme, is ultimately sweet for the most part. Enjoy.
If you don't love this movie, then you don't have a heart or a sense of humor! I swear to you, it is absolutely fantastical and magical! The romance and chemistry between Sandler and Drew is heart wrench! The comedy is side splitting! I mean it...You will need a theatrical ambulance! LOL! Buy it, you'll like it! That last line is a paraphrase of an old Alka seltzer commercial....Google it!

5 Stars for the movie and 3 Stars for the 'Totally Awesome Edition' DVD. The movie is of course awesome with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, magical together on-screen. The story is funny and cute and the 80's theme is fun with the music and pop-culture references(Madonna/Micheal Jackson/Delorean).
I was hoping for a comment track or a behind-the-scenes featurette but this edition doesn't really bring anything worthwhile to the table while eliminating some previous specials(80's Music Trivia/Karaoke). What you do get are a few trailers, 80's Mix Tape(30 second clips from the movie), and a 10 min feature of 'The WeddingSinger on Broadway'.
Having grown up in the 80s, this is a fun revisit to some old favorite songs, and a cute little love story. I'm not always a fan of Adam's work, but he does a great job in the role of nice-guy Robbie Hart and Drew shines as Julia Sullivan. One we have watched over and over.

In 1985, weddingsinger Robbie Hart is jilted at the altar of his own wedding. He then meets waitress Julia and falls in love with her despite the fact that she is about to get married to someone else. One of Adam Sandler's best films from back in the days when he was genuinely very funny and one of Drew Barrymore's best films too as well, this is a delightfully feel good romantic comedy. A rare thing now as most rom coms now are neither funny or romantic but this manages to be both and has the added plus of an Adam Sandler movie that is hilarious without having to rely on toilet humour and low brow gags. Some great cameos too including Sandler regular Steve Buscemi and Billy Idol with a great 80's soundtrack giving off an 80's nostalgia vibe which appears to be a fairly common theme in Adam Sandler movies.
this is a really good rom com with the added bonus of a trip down memory lane for those of us of a certain age.the story follows adam sandlers robbie hart the best weddingsinger in town as he is dumped by his girlfriend and falls slowly for the lovely drew barrymores julia who is about to marry the wrong man.that's all the story you need to know but the leads act well together with that special chemistry that makes a movie stand out from the crowd(which this one does). the picture on this blu-ray is great and so is the sound track the only thing to let the disc down is the lack of special features but even then this is a definite buy for anyone who love a good romance with all the things about the eighties that should have been left there.
Have you ever watched a romantic comedy and wanted to throw up when all the cheesyness attacks you? Yes? Well, be prepared for a true attack of cheese in The WeddingSinger. However, when you make a movie about a loveable guy and a bumbling girl caught in the mint-green madness that was the 80's then corny jokes and tongue in cheek references actually work! The WeddingSinger is a film that can appeal to everyone - whether you experienced the 80's first-hand or not; the jokes work from many points of view (I've never thought of laughing at the existence of a CD player before!). So not only are the characters appealing, the jokes hilarious and the soundtrack fantastic, but this movie is one you can return to again and again, and still love it.
