This is a aw surprise when we get there. It is only 1.5 hr up and the trail was wide and quite easy. The picture like lake was jaw dropping.

I am a avid Canadian Rockies backpacker and dayhiker. If you only have time to do a day hike or one backpacking trip then do this one..Spectacular setting with the over 9000 ft vertical bulk of Mt Robson never far away. It's not the tallest mountain in the entire chain ,but it is the biggest. No Mtn in Canada or US has the vertical relief of Robson. The north face is a wall of mtn with 2 glaciers receding from its base.Snowbird pass from Berg lake is a must ,but make sure you have glacier glasses to protect your eyes.
I had the opportunity of spending 4 nights in Dec once at Berg lake hikers shelter (chopper in) and it was only the highlight of my hiking career! We were able to cross berg lake to the toe of the glaciers. The sound of silence was deafening. I haven't been to Robson for a few years and plan on returning in 2020.

Very well maintained trail with nice campgrounds along the way. Some of them have shelters which are great when it's raining. Berg Lake is beautiful and definitely worth the hike.

Lovely trail. But the outhouses are disgusting. With the fees charged by the park for booking why are they
disgusting?

The Berg Lake trail starts at the Mt Robson Visitor Centre an hours drive from Jasper.
Our family of 4 hiked only upto Kinney Lake. This is a truly wonderful hike. Not much elevation & very easy to do for all ages.
You start from the Mt Robson Visitor Centre & then walk steadily uphill till you reach Kinney Lake. On your right hand side is a very fast flowing river. On both sides are Cedar Forests & lots of other trees.
We stopped at Kinney Lake & had a small picnic on a table overlooking the Lake.
You can see a bit of Mt Robson from the lake shore.
Very few people are on this trail which is very surprising considering how lovely this hike is.
From Kinney Lake you can go on to Berg Lake.
The hike to Kinney Lake & back to trailhead would take 3 hours with plenty of stops for photos.
I would very strongly recommend this hike & I hope I can come back & do the entire hike upto Berg Lake one day.
The cafe at the Visitor Centre is also well worth a visit.

I only hiked to the far end of Kinney Lake then hiked back. But even that hike is worth traveling from Southern California as I did. It’s breathtaking! Kinney Lake is this unreal blue color that is hard to describe and as beautiful as my pics are, they don’t do it any justice. You just have to go see it yourself! Make sure you leave early enough so you can do lunch or dinner at Kinney Lake - just sit and let the beauty of creation fill you with awe - let the moment breathe.
Not much elevation gain and the most reward for the easiest work on a hike I have experienced. I hiked with a couple buddies but I would not hesitate to hike with my kids - in fact I saw many kids on the trail. My friend I was with has hiked up to Berg Lake and back in one long day - and he’s done it twice! I may be back next year with my family. We camped about 20 minutes away at Lucerne Campground - beautiful spot nestled halfway from Mt Robson to Jasper.

My husband and I spent 4 days 3 nights on the trail. We camped at Whitehorn and Berg Lake. Memorable trip and so appreciated that we have such beautiful places in Canada.

Having travelled to the Canadian Rockies multiple times before this was my first trip to Mt Robson. It will not be my last. Reaching Berg Lake in 1 day is nearly impossible. Use one of the many backcountry campsites as a base to break up your trip. Book well in advance for a campsite. Don’t give up if you do not get a site in advance. Continue to check and see if there are any cancellations. The hike itself is amazing...Kinney Lake, Valley of a 1,000 Waterfalls, Emperor Falls, and Berg Lake. The visitor center at Mt Robson will help you plan your trip.

Hello,
We want to do the Berg Lake trail in one day. We want to do the first kilometers to Kinney Lake with the bike and then go walking. Do anyone know if that is possible?
I only see on the website that you have to stay a night on a campsite because it is too much for one day.

Hello,
we are trying to book the Berg Lake Trail for June 2020 and I can't find any free camp spot. Does anybody know if all is booked already?
the website only says that the whole trail is unavailable without any further reason. Im not sure if its a bug.
Thanks in advance!

We found that many of the sites were booked by now. When we arrived we visited the visitor center and they mentioned that some people do cancel their reservations. You might get find a site by waiting.

Hi! I’m thinking of going Berg Lake trail in late June. Does anyone know how the mosquitoes are at that time of the summer? Thanks :)
We have done the trail twice, in early July 2017 and in early August 2018. Neither time did we use bug repellant and we hardly noticed the mosquitoes.
Did anyone see bears? Worried about wildlife.

We did not. This is a pretty busy trail so encounters I imagine are rare. Make noise and travel in a group. 😀
what was the bike lock up like? Did it seem secure? do you know if theft is ever a concern?

It is fairly secure, but a lot of people from all walks of life venture that far up the trail, so if you have a very expensive bike don’t risk it. It is not Japan😋

I’d agree with powdergal. I’ve done one short swim though, but a lake with a few ice bergs in it is fairly cold!

Hi everyone!
We are deciding whether to hike up to Berg Lake and camp, in one day from Mount Robson visitor centre, or to camp at Whitehorn night 1, then Mount Robson night 2. We've already booked some of the campgrounds, and we're going in September so availability aside - do you think doing this with only 1 nights stop is OK? We are both young, active and fit and have done big hikes before - though not hiked with heavy packs.
It's just a decision really as to
- there and back with 1 night stay in Mount Robson, or
- Night 1 at whitehorn and night 2 at Mount Robson.
Main reason for considering 1 night only is wanting to see as much as possible in this beautiful country while on a 14 night campervan trip from Calgary to Vancouver (1 way). Really can't wait for the adventures!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Really will depend a bit on the weather. We’ve had major fires in BC this August. Rain coming through is clearing out the wide spread smoke.
If you have the time spend two nights on
the Berg Lake trail, Whitehorn and Berg Lake if you can.
I’d try get over to go through the Okanagon and see Victoria on the island. Have fun!!

Our family will be hiking Berg Lake trail for 4 days / 3 nights: camping at Whitehorn (1st night), Marmot(2nd night) and back to Whitehorn (3rd night). My question is about water sources...Are there safe spots along the trail to filter water with our pump?
I know that there are lots of rivers and lakes so I just want to make sure that there are safe places to get our filtration system in the water to pump... the river looks pretty wild so that option is potentially out.

I would always have 2-3 liters on hand in case you run into an issue. You are beside the river the entire way so lots of water points. At Whitehorn there is easy access to the river, as well as many other spots before that. Whitehorn to Emperor falls is a grind and you will use up a lot of water over this few kilometers, there is limited access to water in this area from what I remember. At the top, near Marmot there is a small river or walk down to the lake.
You can carry a pump, gravity filter, or lifestraw, I have never had too much luck with those over time and factoring in cost.
Personally I always just filter my water through cheesecloth/mesh to take out any grit (if needed) and then add an Aquatab, wait 30 minutes and your good. I prefer a $10, 50 pack of Aquatabs, but each to there own. Boil it if you are really concerned.
