PITTSBURGH, PA — If you were growing weary of the spring's so-so temperatures, you'll like next week. Pittsburgh is in a large swath of the nation likely to experience the year's first heat wave.

The National Weather Service says there is a risk of excessive heat, which the agency defines as a combination of heat and excessive humidity that push heat index values over 100 degrees.

It remains to be seen if the coming summer will be hot as last year, when temperatures reached or exceeded 90 degrees 17 times. But it appears this summer definitely is intent on getting off to a hot start.
