James Gunn jokes he'll rush the making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 just to end all the memes about Drax being invisible. With 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn cemented himself as one of Marvel's very best directors. Not only did he find a way to make audiences care for a talking racoon and sentient tree, he did it all alongside an awesome soundtrack. Gunn returned for the sequel, and though he was briefly fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Marvel later rehired him after he gained overwhelming support from the cast.

The entire Guardians team are expected to return for Vol. 3, including the "invisible" Drax (Dave Bautista). This joke actually came about in a movie Gunn did not direct, Avengers: Infinity WarAt one moment, Drax invades a private moment between Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), though he insists they can't see him because he's invisible. "I've mastered the ability of standing so incredibly still, that I become invisible to the eye," Drax says. Since then, fans have gone crazy with jokes about Drax's newfound skill, even to the point where it's gotten on Bautista's nerves.

Evidently, it's gotten on Gunn's as well. On social media, a fan joked Gunn should hurry up with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 so that the invisible jokes can be a thing of the past. Gunn replied, "Most compelling argument I’ve heard yet for rushing the process." This came after Gunn wished Bautista a happy birthday. Perhaps the elimination of the invisible jokes can be Gun's present to him?

Gunn's response is a fair one, as the "Drax is invisible" memes have certainly overstayed their welcome. Infinity War was released nearly three years ago, yet fans continuously keep the gag going. In some respects, it's a compliment to Infinity War that it holds a joke so many people find amusing. On the other hand, though, when the people behind the character grow tired of the line, it suggests it's time to move on. Hopefully, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will provide a worthy replacement.

Though an official date hasn't been named, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to debut sometime in 2023. Filming could begin as early as later this year. That seems like a long wait before Vol. 3, but fans won't have to endure it without seeing the Guardians at all. The ragtag team will be seen in 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, and they'll unite for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special at the end of 2022. Perhaps either of those projects will provide a reprieve from the endless invisible jokes. That might be a relief for Bautista and Gunn.
