Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden have welcomed their first child, a daughter named Raddix Madden. The actress announced the news on her Instagram account on 3 January.

"We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden," she wrote. "She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family."

The 47-year-old went on to request privacy for the family and their new arrival, confirming that they won't be sharing any pictures.

"While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one's privacy," she explained. "So we won't be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact she is really, really cute. Some might even say RAD."

Diaz was pictured at the end of November with no visible sign of a baby bump, causing many to assume that the couple have either adopted or used a surrogate.

The actress married the Good Charlotte guitarist in 2015. She spoke out about her husband in a rare interview in August, telling InStyle that he was "the greatest human being".

"I just want to build better, stronger friendships with the people who are in it with me. Of course, that includes my husband. Getting married to him was the best thing that ever happened to me," she said.

"My husband's the best. He's the greatest human being, and he's my great partner. Marriage is certainly hard, and it's a lot of work. You need somebody who's willing to do the work with you, because there's no 60-40 in marriage. It's 50-50 period. All the time."

The actress confirmed that she had retired from acting in March 2018. The last movie she appeared in was Annie in 2014.

She touched on why she had stepped away from acting during the Goop Wellness Summit in 2017: "I just went, 'I can't really say who I am to myself,' which is a hard thing to face up to. I felt the need to make myself whole."
