How to Use the Walmart Grocery App

Learn how to use it and skip the in-store lines

The Walmart Grocery app is an easy way to get food and other consumer goods delivered to your home. You can also place an order for pickup at your local store. Here's what you need to know about the app and how it works.

Walmart announced in early 2020 that it's folding its standalone Grocery app into its main app. Grocery app users will transition to the main app throughout the year. Their account information will remain intact, including favorites, order history, and payment methods. Once the transition is finished, Walmart will retire the standalone Grocery app. The instructions in this guide are for the integrated Walmart shopping and grocery app.

What Is the Walmart Grocery App?

The Walmart Grocery App lets you shop online for food and household products from the giant retailer. Then, it gives you the option of home delivery or curbside pickup. You pay the same price you would in a physical store. Walmart promises there are no markups or hidden fees. If an item is out-of-stock, the store substitutes it with a similar item (but only if you opt into substitutions). It's available on both iOS and Android.

How to Order for Pickup in the Walmart Grocery App

There's no fee for curbside pickup, which makes it the cheaper option. Here's how it works:

  1. Open the app and sign in to your account if necessary. Then select Pickup & delivery.

  2. Select Change if necessary, then tap the Pickup tab.

  4. Tap See times and tap a circle next to a time slot to reserve a date and time.

Once you reserve a date and time, the app holds that reservation for an hour. If you don't complete your order during that hour, the reservation time is released, but your order is saved in the app. You just need to reschedule your pickup time.

  5. Add items to your order. Use the search bar at the top to locate products. Tap Add to include an item in your order.

  10. The store sends you a text or email when your order is ready. When your scheduled pickup day arrives, check-in with the app to let the store know you're on your way.

  11. When you arrive at the store, follow the orange signs to park in a designated pickup spot. Enter your parking spot number and car color in the app, so you're easier to locate.

  12. A Walmart associate brings your order to the car and helps load it for you. You need to sign for it afterward.

Walmart has temporarily moved to a no-contact pickup process in some areas. It suggests you stay in your vehicle during pickup and keep the windows rolled up. If you need to show ID for certain items, display your license through the window.

How to Order for Delivery in the Walmart Grocery App

Scheduling a delivery in the Walmart Grocery app is similar to placing a pickup order. But, unlike pickup, delivery isn't free. The cost varies somewhere between $8 and $10, and you may need to order a minimum of $30 worth of groceries. There's also a yearly subscription that costs $98 a year. Its main benefit is no per-delivery fees if you order the minimum amount of groceries, which can save you money if you use the service more than once a month. Here's how to place a delivery order:

  1. Open the app and sign in to your account if necessary. Then select Pickup & delivery.

  2. Select Change if necessary, then tap the Delivery tab.
