Does Nick Brewer (Adrian Grenier) Die in Netflix’s Clickbait?

The question of the moment, huh? Does Nick Brewer’s captors actually murder the man or is he let go at the end of Clickbait? Yes, Nick Brewer dies. His body is found at the end of Episode 2, but who killed him and why is something extremely more complicated…

Who Killed Nick Brewer in Netflix’s Clickbait?

We learn in the final episode of Clickbait that Nick was kidnapped and video-taped by the brother of a woman who committed suicide when she thought Nick had broken their online affair. However, that’s not who killed him. Nick was killed by Ed (Wally Dunn) to protect his wife Dawn’s (Becca Lish) dark secret. Sweet “Dr. Dawn” whom Nick had confided in was actually using his name and story to catfish unsuspecting women online.

Dr. Dawn was bored and lonely and decided to masquerade as Nick online, embarking on full-fledged cyber affairs with women for funsies. Her husband Ed was horrified but determined to cover up his wife’s crime of identity theft. It got more complicated when one of the jilted women committed suicide. Her brother took revenge on the real Nick for fake Nick’s “crimes.”

Nick escaped captivity and realized, based on what this cyber Nick had shared with his lovers, that only one person could have known that much about his own personal secrets: Dawn. A bloodied Nick confronts Dawn and threatens to expose her misdeeds and Ed kills him with a hatchet. After that, the couple goes to extreme measures to cover up their crime, including kidnapping one of Nick’s sons. Eventually Ed is killed in a stand off with cops.

So Wait, the Big Twist in Netflix’s Clickbait is an Old Lady Was Pretending to Be Nick Brewer Online?

Yes. Dr. Dawn gets so deep in her online charade it leads to multiple deaths and a lot of insane drama. She should have just gotten an Animal Crossing: New Horizons island and lived vicariously through that. The Villagers would never have let things go this far.
