Reviews
- Edited 5 years agoI'm listening to this now. It sounds good, so far no issues with the sound quality, so that's a good thing. That said, let's talk about the design of this release. I'd love to hear from whoever designed this package and hear their thought process. I would buy them their favorite beverage and simply ask them: why?
For starters, the front cover features a rendition of the now famously mocked "DON'T DEAD OPEN INSIDE" double door shot from the first episode. This was so widely mocked online I'm surprised to see it as the cover. I could think of at least 50 other things that would make a better cover image but that's me.
Secondly, they could have called this release "The Rick Grimes Show," because every other photo in it features Rick Grimes, which is just bizarre. I get it - Rick is the main character, but holy crap, do we need seven photos of Rick and ONLY Rick? The gatefold features Rick on horseback into the city and then Rick running to the farm. The sleeve for disc one features Rick at the prison pointing his gun, and the flip side is Rick looking at you from a broken fence while holding his gun. Disc sleeve 2 has Rick kneeling inside a TWD logo and the flip side features Rick standing there (with his gun) and there's a note on the ground that says: the new world's gonna need Rick Grimes.
Ummm...yeah.
That fold out poster? You guessed it. Rick Grimes. Yes, there are some of the other other characters in the background, in the very dark red letters of "rise up," but Rick is front and center. Oh, and he has his gun.
Rick, Rick, Rick, Rick, Rick! (that's a lotta Rick)
If you're a Rick Grimes fanboy or girl, then you'll love it. But if you're like me, and wanting some shots of, oh I dunno...the frickin' zombies on the show, or some of the other characters, you'll be disappointed. I wouldn't have minded a shot of some of the villains, minor characters, gore, hell, anything but 'nothing but Rick'.
I feel like I got Rick Rolled. Get it? Never mind.
Oh, and the back cover of the album is totally blank. It just has titles of the songs...lol. Why there's no Rick photo there is a mystery.
The wax itself is aight. Nothing special. It's a dark, murky green. You have to hold it up to the light to see the Rick Grimes photos hidden in the wax. I would've been fine with black.
Anyway, the records sound good, so I'm happy about that. I was pretty pissed when I bought the Spacelab version of this soundtrack and discovered there was only remixes of the score and shitty originals AMC tried to force in every episode. It's nice to finally have the score. I just wish whoever designed this frickin' thing didn't have such a boner for Rick Grimes. :/
