Ron DeSantis Moving to Revoke the Licenses of "Drag Queen Christmas" Venues

The raunchy gay-sex-pantomimes were billed as "kid friendly." Content warning for clips of this "kid friendly" gay burlesque.

A compilation of "kid friendly" simulated anal sex.

Ron DeSantis is acting to revoke the licenses of these groomer venues.

The Drag Queen Christmas appeared in four locations in Florida: the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale, the Knight Center in Miami, Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, and the Plaza Live in Orlando. What made the Plaza Live special was that it held a liquor license. Under Florida law, performances like Drag Queen Christmas are not legal with kids in attendance. As a result, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation sent a warning letter to the Orlando Philharmonic Plaza Foundation, warning them that if they proceeded with the show and allowed children to attend, they were putting their liquor license in jeopardy.

The promoters had two choices; they could a) cancel the performance or b) they could keep kids from attending. Either of those options would mean surrendering to Ron DeSantis, who is Satan himself. So the promoters chose option c) to tell Governor DeSantis to FOAD. And the show went on.

Via Florida's Voice:

Gov. Ron DeSantis' office said the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation is "revoking" the Orlando Philharmonic Plaza Foundation's liquor license after a "sexual" drag show permitted entry to minors.

The department said the venue exposed and promoted lewd, obscene, and sexual acts to minors.

"Governor DeSantis stands to protect the innocence of children, and the governor always follows through when he says he will do something," Press Secretary Bryan Griffin said in a statement.

The complaint said that during the show, "children appearing to be less than 16 years of age" were exposed to performers wearing "sexually suggestive clothing and prosthetic female genitalia."

More clips of the "Blessing of Liberty," if you can stand them, at RedState.

Apparently Gay Groomers believe that there's a special Fabulous Immunity for gays performing sexually for kids.

Driving hard to sexualize children isn't selling the "we're normal and nonthreatening" branding like the Pride Mafia thinks it is.

++++
Okay, cool story for political points but this isn't the right approach. The liquor license wasn't the problem, it was the people running the business who did it. Revoking the liquor license is like those states that revoke driver licenses from people who don't pay child support. The punishment doesn't fit the crime.

It's illegal under Florida law, right? Okay, then. Let them keep their liquor license. Start a civil action against the business and criminal prosecutions against its executives. Make them pay. Personally and as a business, for their violations of the law.

34 That Disney stuff: Walt Disney was so popular they even gave him permission to build his own nuclear power plant there in Florida.

EPCOT really was going to be the Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow until Disney's lawyers figured out that if his workforce actually lived and slept there, they quickly would have a real city, and the employees could demand the right to vote and govern themselves. The lawyers told Disney to make sure the workers did not sleep there, and make clear that each of them was a 'character,' not a resident.

God didn't get it wrong, you did.

Matthew 18:2-6

And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

And Disney will most probably go to court over it but DeSantis and the Fla legislature did complete what he set out to do. Kudos.

BTW, I think DeSantis would actually be a more active cultural warrior as president than Trump now that abortion is off the table as a national issue. The major policy differences that I foresee Trump and DeSantis differ over are a) foreign policy and use of military force, b) restraining corporations, and c) use of tariffs and trade barriers to restore US manufacturing versus the service economy. On spending, I am doubtful that either Trump or DeSantis can do much other than restrain growth of it because the House and Senate, even if GOP controlled simply will not go there.

101 BTW, I think DeSantis would actually be a more active cultural warrior as president than Trump now that abortion is off the table as a national issue.

Support of transgenders is pedophilia.
All of its defenders demand children--even as young as 4--not only have the capability but must have the unlimited right to make sexual choices.

If a child can choose their gender, then there is no reason they can't also choose to have sex with adults.

That's it. Plain and simple: They want to force society to let them have sex with children.

It has nothing, nothing at all, to do with gender.

Joe,
Legally, you run into a First Amendment issue regarding obscenity--the people putting on this show will argue it is for educational purposes and some judge will give an injunction most probably either in state court (less likely but I dunno how strong Florida's court has been on its own constitutional right to free speech), or a fed judge.

However, selling alcohol has consistently been interpreted by the courts as a privilege and as such can be revoked in instances of nudity and obscenity without needing to prove the underlying charge. This caselaw has been developed over the years with going after strip clubs for promoting prostitution etc. without needing to prove the underlying charge and charge individual actors. Plus as a civil matter, it only requires more likely than not that the charges are true versus reasonable doubt std.

You know, the only reason any thinking person would care about for choosing one or the other. Oh, sorry - I know that will offend the vapid majority who focus on meaningless things like personality or media-created mythologies.

I've poked around a bit but haven't found anything, on c), which is not surprising. And wondering where you get your a) and b).

And I don't think "culture" warrior is really a very important role, practically, for a president, so roll my eyes at the excitement over that element (not in itself - it's great, but it's classically a governor's wheelhouse, not a president's). Though as far as that goes, a pretty illustrative chapter with Trump was CRT. He moved so quickly and baldly to excise it from federal activities by EO, once he'd heard of it, that I think legal side was worried about not having dotted i's and such.

(and it's curious/ironic if Rufo is a D vs. T, given that Rufo's stellar work led to the dramatic and immediate bold action Trump took - wondering why he'd feel need to choose)

One of the costs of liberty is letting people do nasty stuff you don't like, but which are not directly destructive to culture. Though as far as that goes, a pretty illustrative chapter with Trump was CRT. If they fail to prosecute for ideological reasons, they in turn should be facing a judge. And they should bring their damn checkbooks. Or Apple Pay, or whatever.

225 198 What I don't comprehend is how prosecutors are not personally liable for failing to prosecute crimes. Legislatures pass laws and governors sign the bills. That sets policy for the state and defines the penalties which the justice system exacts for violations. Prosecutors are mere functionaries in that last part, not policy makers.

If they fail to prosecute for ideological reasons, they in turn should be facing a judge. And they should bring their damn checkbooks. Or Apple Pay, or whatever.
Posted by: Huck Follywood
--------
It gets complicated but is basically vicinage. That is, a person should be tried in the place where the crime was committed and judged by those in that community. That also at the state level usually involves elected district attorneys instead of the federal system where they work for the President via the AG.

So the idea is that the way that the law is applied can vary a bit via juries and elected prosecutors to reflect local concerns. This was because of the British practice in hauling colonists for certain offenses to far away places like Halifax in Canada for trials or even England.

We don't need to talk about that belief.

That belief is WRONG.

What we need to do is harshly, and I mean really harshly, punish men who wave their hairy dongs in the faces of kids as a political power play.

And we need to take those kids away from parents who permit it, and place them in the homes of the many potential adoptive parents who don't view children as sexual playthings or social capital.

Have the cops set up their own explicit DQSH, and just arrest and then potentially execute every adult who walks through the fuckin' door.

The community standards argument for obscenity is what Scotus decided in Miller v. California and thus any charges would depend on the local DA and since the venue was being held in a blue area metro areas probably with copious strip bars, risque entertainment such as the nude chorus line on Oh Calcutta or other plays, and so on.

So, in such places, community standards would dictate whether the drag show constitutes 'prurient' entertainment that lacks any serious artistic, educational, or political content. I suspect no jury would convict in a blue area and prosecutors, even the apolitical ones, hate to lose cases.

So like how drug forfeiture laws work--it is easier to deprive wrongdoers of assets than to convict them of crimes. Same as how many possession cases are actually dealing cases that were plead down as possession is far easier to prove in most courts.

Think broader than China--our electronics, for example, are less reliable because Europe decided all solder should be lead free. But the general solder for cost reasons then becomes mostly tin which has a bad tendency to develop whiskers over use that short out circuits. The US has(d) no such prohibition but in a world wide market---China or any other manufacturer will run lead free solder assembly lines and not a US specific line.

I think the reviewers are missing the point. It does not matter if there is a gay romance interlude. Cuckman is still the driver here. He was taken aback by the visceral reaction people developed to the Last of Us 2 when he casually killed Joel and made him a monster to boot.

Most of that reaction was driven by the core Ellie-Joel dynamic of the first game. He needs to change that. So he needs that dynamic- and more importantly view of Joel to change. To do that he needs to minimize the source stuff where they are bonding and you see Joel start to become less standoffish and dangerous and move more into the Father-Protector role. THAT is what made every dude and woman go 'Fuck yeah, cap these fucking firefly 'doctors!' They are not taking your baby girl away from you this time, man!'

They have to change the perception of Joel in order to make Abbey great and you are happy (or at least understand) when she mercilessly executes him.

Yup. Firing tenured professors for wrongthink - which does happen, albeit rarely (they prefer to force them out by making life unlivable until they quit in disgust) - should put paid to the notion of "tenure." I would take a collective punishment approach to it.

If any state-subsidized school or state university or college fires any tenured professor for any reason involving the professor's political, social or religious beliefs, the tenure system will be ended at all state schools and all schools receiving state funding. If the tenure system is not ended, all financial assistance or legal privileges will be revoked immediately.

347 Yup.

Posted by: Joe Mannix
------
Gets quite complicated as the tenure requirement is regarded as a property right, not a liberty interest so deprivation of property in many states would require individual compensation for abrogating a property interest. Tenure is actually far broader than just universities and includes civil service and teachers in many states.

Easier to do by far is grandfathering with no future hires being granted tenure.

But the general solder for cost reasons then becomes mostly tin which has a bad tendency to develop whiskers over use that short out circuits. The US has(d) no such prohibition but in a world wide market---China or any other manufacturer will run lead free solder assembly lines and not a US specific line.

403 315 And an important point here, both Trump and Lake, to the extent they had a strategy was to sue when the Dems started stealing their elections.

-------
That is actually the way that election laws are written as they presume those running the elections and counting the votes have good faith.

To get a pretrial injunction requires knowing what sort of cheat or rigging is going to occur in advance and then go to an amenable trial court in a usually blue metro area with evidence enough to meet the standard of likely to prevail at trial plus that irrevocable harm will occur if the administrators are allowed to do what they do.

The irrevocable harm for prelim injunctions std btw gives those same blue metro district judges the ability to reject a pre-election injunction because a) the harm has not occurred yet, and b) in any case, it would not constitute irrevocable harm as a) no candidate has a 'right' to an office and b) any misdeeds can be challenged post election through both administrative and court remedies.

That there is an option of telling people to vote "day of" or "vote early" has everything to do with everything.

It's lost before it's even begun. Day-of should be the ONLY unless you're voting absentee (not bullsh*t "mail in" ballots that go everywhere and can be filled in as needed), and that won't ever happen. The ball game is over. The home team lost.

It is a direct attack on private property rights, by claiming that all land ownership is invalid.

The Oregon secretary of state just put out a document saying that water rights in Oregon are invalid, because they were created during a racist period. Therefore, the state can abolish existing water rights, and hand out new water rights to preferred group. (Remember, most of Oregon is arid, and water rights are very valuable.)

Pro tip: don't be a Oregon farmer with water rights next to an Indian reservation.

It's illegal under Florida law, right? Okay, then. Let them keep their liquor license. Start a civil action against the business and criminal prosecutions against its executives. Make them pay. Personally and as a business, for their violations of the law.

The dude received more votes than any Republican presidential candidate ever. He increased his number of votes in 2020 by...around 20%?...over his 2016 election, which is unheard of (especially with him subsequently "losing" the election). He brought in large numbers of people that normally don't vote, or hadn't for the Republican party. I think you underestimate his appeal with many voters.

And the dude has a full staff of experts...I just need someone to weigh options, provide direction, and make decisions.

485 410 Harmeet Dhillon could have saved the GOP. She had a specific plan and new operating method.

But that's not what the donors and voting members of the RNC wanted. They want to FAIL.
Posted by: Marcus T
--------
It is possible that Harmeet is a good manager but we have no track record of that. As a lawyer for the RNC, her track record is not the best but she would have far outshone Ronna as far as public communications which is part of the job.

Lindell probably would have been the best managerial wise to bring in fresh blood as both Ronna and Harmeet are insiders. Simply put, like the commission on debates, the RNC is filled with aging GOPe fixtures that want no changes to the status quo of looting the government to support their lifestyles. Good candidates will build their own structures but unfortunately laws give the RNC and its DNC counterpart powers that mere candidates do not have.

Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at February 07, 2023 03:18 PM (zZu0s)

Gauls didn't really go away so much as merge with the Franks, and afaik they don't tend to get identified as special like the Basque who have a pre-Indo-European language. So I'd tend to group them with the Indo-European wave as outsiders, though I'm not expert.
Posted by: Red Turban Someguy - The Republic is already dead! at February 07, 2023 03:21 PM (eYoxG)

Yeah, the 19th century idea of immutable nations going back to ancient days and casual wiping out of other peoples in migrations is likely nonsense. There's a lot more evidence of group identity being more plastic - you move into area X you might just take up X-ness and be invisible in a few years archaeologically. In other cases a military caste might move to a new area, take over and skim taxes/goods off the same farmers that served the former leaders with some aspects looking like total replacement, and others looking like nothing changed at all.

Given the fraud increasing the second election over the first, this is unlikely to be the reason for Trumps loss. Dems have spent generations being content for the GOPe to put up wishy washy non polarizers they can beat with normal levels of fraud. Since polarizing is defined by the MSM, anyone worth electing is polarizing.

I think that was because Rome did a pretty good job of just... enduring for over a 1000 years. Other empires rose and fell with regularity. Persians, Macedon, Parthia, Sassnids, Carthage, Egypt (although they had a longer run, sort of, they never dominated the stage like Rome.)

That is why pretty much everyone has been and still is fascinated by Rome. They put together a run that has never been paralleled.
