Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert resigns; Mayor issues statement

Action 8 News has just confirmed that Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert has resigned.

A city spokesperson told Action 8 News that Albert offered his resignation to Mayor Steven Reed, and he accepted it.

As Action 8 News has reported, Albert was put on administrative leave on April 8. Reed has not disclosed the reason.

Albert was introduced as chief in 2022, bringing more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement and who had most recently served as commander of the Special Operations Division for the New Orleans Police Department.

Mayor Reed issued this statement:

“Today, Darryl Albert informed me that he is resigning from his post as Chief of Police, and I have accepted his resignation. MPD Deputy Chief John Hall will continue to serve as acting chief. Improving public safety is a priority for our city. We are committed to confronting violent crime with community-based solutions.”

Deputy Chief John Hall, who is Chief of Investigations, was named acting chief on April 10.
