Tai Wan is one of four beautiful beaches found along the Tai Long Wan Hiking Trail in the Sai Kung East Country Park. If you are starting from the trailhead at the Sai Wan Pavilion, this is the third beach you will encounter after (1) Sai Wan Beach, (2) Ham Tin Beach and before (4) Tung Wan Beach. All are situated within Tai Long Wan, a large bay on the eastern shore of the country park.
Because it is further along the trail, you will find noticeably fewer people at Tai Wan Beach, yet it just as beautiful and impressive. The beach is around 300-350 metres in length and has fine sand and blue water. You'll find a similar hilly countryside backdrop and rocky shorelines flanking both ends, basically the same as what you encounter at the three other beaches at Tai Long Wan. Tai Wan beach is very photogenic and a good place for swimming, surfing when the bigger waves are coming in and some campers wanting to stay overnight on these fine shores yet eager for more space than what is afforded at Ham Tin Beach, which can be rather crowded on weekends.
Note that there are no public facilities at Tai Wan Beach. You can simply make a short 5-10 minute walk back to Ham Tin Beach by way of the main trail. There you will find public toilets, a couple stores & eateries at the northeast end of the beach. At Ham Tin you can also arrange speedboat passage back to Sai Kung pier if you don't plan to hike out of the country park.

This is one of 4 beautiful and isolated beaches in the Sai Kung East Country Park. It’s one of the more remote beaches but it has bigger waves that attract surfers.
The easiest and most popular way to get here is by taxi or bus to the Sai Wan Pavilion, where the Tai Long Wan Hiking Trail starts and then walk in (it will take about 1 ½ hours).
The first beaches you come to are Sai Wan, then Ham Tin. At both of these, you’ll find simple facilities, toilets and stores where you can buy drinks and snacks or sit for basic lunch. In contrast, Tai Wan has no facilities or toilets and very little shade so far fewer people venture around to it. However it is only 10 minutes further on from Ham Tin and the path between these two beaches is flat.
Surfboards can be hired at Ham Tin Beach and easily carried around to Tai Wan.
Overall, I thought that Tai Wan was the nicest beach to swim at because it was so much quieter and there were no speedboats boats zipping in and out of the beach. Being so close to Ham Tin, we could easily pop back there for lunch and we could catch the speedboat from Ham Tin back to Sai Kung at the end of the day.
