Fashion In Anime: Nana & Vivienne Westwood
In the anime, NANA, the creator of the show, Ai Yazawa, paid homage to her fashion school roots by deeply ingraining Vivienne Westwood pieces into the show’s core. Nana and her Black Stones bandmates all wore various real-life Vivienne Westwood pieces from shoes, clothes and even down to accessories. The characters of NANA and Vivienne Westwood were a match made in punk-rock heaven. The show even nods to the band, Sex Pistols, whose members were famously all customers or former employees of Vivienne and Malcolm’s (Westwood’s ex-husband) store.
In Episode 4, Nana Osaki received a gift from fan Misato that clearly shows the Vivienne Westwood logo and text on the shopping bag. As Nana O. accepts the gift, she is becomes visibly excited as she’s clearly a fan of the brand. (She was already wearing a Westwood necklace (ネックラス) and ring (リング) as she accepted the present.)
