Invincible spoilers follow.

When Amazon Prime Video dropped Invincible, it proved so popular that fans were demanding season two before season one had even finished.

Luckily, Prime Video was listening. After a little bit of hard work, petitions and hashtags from the fans, the show was renewed in April 2021 for a second season... and a third!

There was a long two-and-a-half-year wait for season two of the animated superhero show, but the first four episodes finally aired on Amazon Prime in November 2023. It was a huge success, with the streamer revealing that season two tripled its opening weekend viewership compared to that of season one.

While all eight episodes were meant to be released at this time, production issues meant that the remainder of the season has faced further delays.

Co-showrunner Simon Racioppa explained the situation to The Hollywood Handle and said:

"As we started producing the show, some issues came up, talked to Amazon, so we thought this was the best way to present the show, now, with these four episodes instead of making the audience wait even longer. We will come back after a few months and give you the rest."

So, just when can we expect season two, part two of Invincible? Strap on some spandex and join us, because we've got you covered on everything you need to know.

Invincible season 2 part 2 release date: When will it air?

Well, it's very exciting news for Invincible fans, as there is finally a release date!

It has now been confirmed that the first episode of season two, part two will be released on Prime Video on Thursday, March 14.

From then, the remaining three episodes will be released on the platform weekly – in line with how part one aired back in November.

It's been a long and even frustrating wait for fans, but while viewers have not yet seen the completion of season two, season three is already well on its way and has been in development for quite some time.

The good news is that Robert Kirkman, creator of the original comic book series and an executive producer on the show, has confirmed that fans won't have to endure the long wait between seasons again, promising that season two and three will be much closer together.

Several months before the first half of season two dropped, he told Collider: "This is the pain. This area right now is the pain for Invincible fans. So once we're through this, once season two comes out, hopefully, it should be smooth sailing from there on. There won't be these big, large gaps, theoretically."

Kirkman is also looking even further into the future and hopes for the show to continue running, with a new season released each year.

The Walking Dead writer told Variety in October 2023: "The realities of animation might make it a little difficult, but what I can guarantee is that the gap between season 1 and 2 is the longest gap we should ever have, you know, barring some unforeseen catastrophe.

"It may be every 18 months or 16 months or 13 months or every 12 months. We're still trying to figure that out."

Invincible season 2 part 2 cast: Who's in it?

Invincible's cast is — and we don't say this lightly — absolutely staaaaacked, and it's possible that it's only going to get even bigger as the show goes on.

The following actors made up the cast of season two part one of Invincible, and it is assumed that most, if not all, will also lend their voices to the next four episodes:

    • Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson / Invincible
    • Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson
    • Sterling K Brown as Angstrom Levy
    • JK Simmons as Nolan Grayson / Omni-Man
    • Zachary Quinto as Robot
    • Ross Marquand as Rudy Connors (Robot's new real body), The Immortal
    • Gillian Jacobs as Samantha Eve Wilkins / Atom Eve
    • Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Sloan / Rex Splode
    • Chris Diamantopoulos as Donald Ferguson, Vidor
    • Malese Jow as Kate Cha / Dupli-Kate
    • Grey Griffin as Shrinking Rae, Monster Girl / Amanda, Thula
    • Khary Payton as Black Samson / Markus Grimshaw
    • Clancy Brown as Damien Darkblood, General Kregg
    • Jay Pharaoh as Bulletproof
    • Ben Schwartz as Shapesmith
    • Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman
    • Peter Cullen as Thaedus
    • Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien
    • Tatiana Maslany as Queen Lizard, General Telia
    • Rhea Seehorn as Andressa
    • Kevin Michael Richardson as The Mauler Twins
    • Phil LaMarr as Lucan
    • Andrew Rannells as William Clockwell
    • Zazie Beetz as Amber Bennett

Well, that's who's likely to return, but what about new cast members? Could there be anyone new joining the gang for part two of the season?

Of course, the series has already featured several cameos from the cast of The Walking Dead. Season one alone saw appearances from Ross Marquand, Lauren Cohan, Sonequa Martin-Green, Khary Payton, Michael Cudlitz, Lennie James and Chad Coleman, reuniting with Invincible lead Yeun — who played Glenn in the zombie show way back when.

And in January 2023, Grey's Anatomy and The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan alluded to potentially joining the show.

Morgan posted a very suggestive Instagram pic of himself resting on two quite thick binders labelled Invincible 2 and Invincible 3. He captioned his post: "Doing a little reading. Thanks to #robertkirkman."

But speaking to TechRadar in November, Kirkman remained tight-lipped about whether Morgan will actually be seen (or rather, heard) in the show.

"I mean – Jeffrey and I know each other," he said. "It's possible he was just reading the comic books, which I think will disappoint many people. But I wouldn't want to spoil anything for future seasons.

"Jeffrey's on a very long list of Walking Dead actors that I would love to work with again. Norman Reedus is someone else on that list, as well as Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln.

"It would be great to get them into Invincible in some capacity. It's just a matter of finding the right role for them."

There's also still a chance that Mark Hamill as Art Rosenbaum could also make a reappearance, with Kirkman saying: "Oh, man... the recording sessions with @HamillHimself were EPIC. Will Bulletproof appear in Season 2? We'll just have to wait and see!"

Looking ahead, Kirkman has also hinted that the future third season will have plenty of both new and returning stars joining the core cast.

He told Variety: "There are so many actors that are in season 3 that are not in season 2 that I am terrified to talk about actors in interviews, because season 3 has already been recorded, and the sessions definitely run together in my head.

"There are people who were in season 1 whose characters don’t appear in season 2, but do appear in season 3 – that’s a tidbit I’ll give you."

Invincible season 2 part 2 plot: What will happen?

The newly announced release date for Invincible will be welcome news for eager fans, as the first lot of season two episodes was left on quite the cliffhanger.

After Nolan Grayson, or Omni-Man, teamed up with his son Mark (aka Invincible) to fight off the Viltrumites, he was captured and looks set to be executed. His fate remains unknown, so there could well be a shock death in the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, in the absence of his father, Mark has been left with the responsibility of preparing Earth for the Viltrum Empire's conquest, and killing anyone who stands in his way – including his friends. With Earth in danger if there is resistance, Mark is left with a big dilemma that will play out in the upcoming episodes.

Before he's captured, Mark tells his son to read his books, and in an interview with TV Insider, Kirkman talked about the lasting significance of that line.

He said: "I don't want to spoil too much around that scene, but I think that the fact that he is revealing there's something useful in those books for Mark in that moment indicates, possibly, a shift in his loyalties – if the episode itself wasn't a clear indication of that.

"And what they are, what they mean, and what they mean for the future? You'll just have to keep watching the show to find out, but I will say that in the back half [of the season], we're not going to be keeping that a mystery for long, so it's not something that's going to be driving you crazy for a good long time."

In the same interview, Kirkman also confirmed that there will be more to come from the Mauler Twins, after a shocking post-credits scene revealed more about their dynamic.

He said: "We love those characters, there’s a lot planned for them... I think there's a lot that can be read from that scene to indicate how things are going to be moving forward for that character or those characters.

"But we'll see. I feel like I've already said too much, but stay tuned for more Mauler action. Kevin Michael Richardson, who plays the Maulers, is excellent and we love having him as a part of the show."

At the end of last year, voice actor Fred Tatasciore, who plays a number of characters in the show, teased what is in store for fans in the second instalment of the season.

In an interview with YouTube channel Traversing the Stars, he said: "All I'm gonna say to you is it's gonna get weirder. It’s just gonna get weirder and weirder and weirder and fun, in a good way. Just in general, it's a lot of crazy aliens, I'll say that."

Racioppa also opened up to The Hollywood Handle about the upcoming season finale, saying: "I hope it will be as emotional and as intense as season 1. We try to build always a little bit more when we're getting to the end of a season.

"I hope it feels just as big, just as interesting, just as emotional as season 1's. That's our goal."

But if you're looking for hints of what might be to come, maybe don't look too closely at the comics for guidance – Kirkman's mission is to surprise these fans as well.

He explained: "I'm always acutely aware of the fact that one of the appeals of this comic is how frequently unexpected things happen. I want to try and maintain that as much as I can for the audience that has read the comic and is now watching the show.

"By changing and rearranging things, even if you have read the comics, you still get the sense of, 'Oh, I didn't expect this already' or, 'Oh, I thought this character would be like this or do this but isn't'. It brings a little of that excitement from the comics into the show."

Kirkman says he has learned a lot from Invincible, and has taken those lessons onto the plot of season two and beyond.

"Over the first season, I learned all the ins and outs, and it's [allowed] me to alter the scriptwriting process, alter my notes process, the way I talk to the directors, the way I talk to the animators," Kirkman told ScreenRant. "It's allowed me to have a better vocabulary for what I want and for what I want to see.

"Also, I'm not driving these extremely talented people crazy with dumb thoughts that make no sense whatsoever because I don't know what I'm talking about, or at least I think I'm not.

"It's been a cool learning process, but I feel like things have honed and we're just buttoned in, and I just cannot wait for people to see season two and eventually season three."

Invincible season 2 part 2 trailer: Is there any footage yet?

The simple answer is... yes! Alongside the announcement of the release date for the new episodes came an exciting trailer teasing what is in store for the fans who have waited patiently for the next instalment.

The clip previews lots of action, fight scenes and aliens – but what else did we expect from Invincible?

In a voiceover, Black Samson says: "We're not the best superhero team on the planet. We're family. And like any family, we're all messed up in our own way. We go around saving lives while ruining them at the same time."

Mark is sent back to space for another mission, and also faces off against villain Angstrom Levy. But perhaps most significantly, the end of the trailer shows a funeral taking place, though it remains to be seen who has actually died.

Thankfully, there isn't too much time left to wait before all is revealed and the second half of the season is released. But until then, maybe the best preparation you can do for the next instalment is to watch the first four episodes again, and again…

Invincible season one and the first four episodes of season two are now available to watch on Prime Video. Season two, part two begins on March 14, with episodes streaming weekly.
