About
The Viking Museum is an interactive museum that tells the story of Viking Age Scandinavia – from brave seafarers to the people who stayed at home at the farms. Here you get to learn about one of history’s most mythical periods in innovative ways – through movies, artifacts and scenic environments. There are several guided tours in English everyday, held by knowledgeable guides in Viking age attire. The Viking Museum has its own ride, Ragnfrid’s saga – an adventure filled story about a Viking Age family and raiding in 10th century Europe. The ride takes eleven minutes and is available in nine languages. Inside The Viking Museum you will also find the newly opened Eld restaurant. The menu offers quality dishes with Nordic influences and is always based on seasonal produce. There is a wide selection of organic pastries, buns and cookies for those in the mood for Swedish fika. Updated information about opening hours and prices can be found on the museum’s web page.

Neighborhood: Djurgården & Djurgårdsbrunn
The island of Djurgården and its northern mainland extension, Djurgårdsbrunn, impress with a mix of nature and an abundance of museums, while being located in walking distance to Stockholm’s city center. Djurgården not only invites visitors to take endless walks through a beautiful park landscape without having to leave the city, but also offers an incredible range of entertainment facilities, such as an open air museum which specializes in the Swedish way of life pre-industrialization, the renowned Vasa Museum with its legendary sailing ship, and Sweden’s most famous amusement park Gröna Lund, which is more than a 100 years old.

    Maybe for kids
Given I was in the epicenter of Viking history I felt this could be an educational and interesting experience but I left a bit disappointed. Museum area was short and had hardly any original / genuine artifacts. Audio guide was missing half the items in English and there was no good labeling to pair audio with visuals. The ride section would be fun if you are a child but had very little value to an adult. The story was also kind of bland, without much reference to history or events. The restaurant was good but their music selection detracted from the entire experience. I mean, Run DMC and Will Smith have their place but at the “Viking restaurant” they felt a bit out of place. Overall it was “something to do” while walking the beautiful area, but don’t expect a true museum like the ones in the vecinity.

Great overview of the life of the Vikings
Multimedia museum on the Vikings. Displays were in Swedish and English. There was a even a Disney-like ride that told a story representative of the life of a Viking adventurer. Overall, not a big place but the family really liked it.

    Good but not brilliant
Situated near the Vasa museum, the Viking museum provides a history of the Vikings, concentrating on those from Sweden. There are talks in several languages with those giving the tour in Viking clothes. There is a good interactive ride in the basement. Overall good but not brilliant

    Weekend at Stockholm
We were in Stockholm that day, and we wanted to visit the Viking museum, at the start the staff welcomed us very nicely, the museum is interesting, a bit of history, etc. Particular attention is paid to the "roller coster" who tells the story while riding. I recommend it to everyone ;)

    Swedish secret
The museum is not big. What puzzled me was that the guide didn’t say anything about Kievan Rus, I’m not even talking about Bulgaria on the Volga. The text that mentioned both was only on one place. This is very strange, because the vikings from Sweden sailed to the east (the Danish ones to England and Normandy, and the Norwegian ones to Scotland, Greenland and Ireland). I was shocked. Every other country on the place of Sweden will be very proud... They gave the initial statehood of the Kievian Rus and its successor states - Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. I have no words.

    Great fun Viking tour
Loved this very informative Viking museum. The actual museum is small compared to others, but packed with lots of information and interactive experiences. A lot of negative comments say it’s overpriced but I disagree. It’s a well put together and maintained exhibition that deserves what it asks. We managed to catch the English’s tour which, I admit, did drag on so we wondered off and watched the videos instead. Staff were friendly and helpful. The ride at the end was a cool touch as well.

    Gone a viking
The staff were extremely helpful. The tour guide was really insightful and gave some really good history of the vikings. The museum itself was really good as was the little ride at the end. The food in the restaurant was good

    Fun for kids
This would be a fun museum for families snd kids. Lots of fun displays and artifacts. I would have liked more history content other than the one timeline board, but we certainly got a good idea of how the Vikings lived and loved.

    Lovely visit.
Great museum with artifacts and context. The museum is close to the Vasa museum so we were able to visit both. They have real axes, coins and swords. They also have a reconstruction of a Viking person who was unearthed some years ago.

Interesting little museum with a fun ride
The main part of the museum was fairly interesting, though we wandered through it quite quickly. Thought the ride brought what it was like to be a Viking to life a little bit, by providing a story. It might not be for everyone but we enjoyed it and left with a better understanding of Viking life.

We were completing a walk around the foreshore and as we were about to walk on past this museum we decided on a whim to stop in. So very glad we did. We started off by doing a short guided tour. Our guide Eric was terrific. Full of knowledge, able to answer all our questions, taught as some things, was very friendly and even threw in some humour. My ideas about Vikings have all been based on TV shows and movies all of which depicted them as constantly wagging blood thirsty battles and destroying people and towns. Well I now know that is not so.

Very interesting museum with lots of information about vikings and how they lived. It has interactive areas where you can chose to learn more about specific types of vikings and their servants. Also very interesting to find out that viking helmets never actually had horns!! There is also a very worthwhile and fun interactive ride which takes you through the life of a viking trying to make some gold (money).

If you're an adult this place probably won't teach you anything about the Vikings you didn't already know. There's lots of activities for children, but that's about it really.
The tour Ragnfrid's Saga was good though. The set up was chilling and beautifully arranged.

Having no expectations for this museum was good thing. Wasn’t disappointed! Plenty of information to read - and thankfully in English! However, if you don’t want to read, there is a free audio tour that you need to be prepared for utilizing your own phone and earbuds. Museum provided free wifi. There’s a free phone charging station near lockers should you be low on battery.

Museum is semi interactive and fun. A lot of great knowledge is provided.

Little fun surprise when you get to the end of the exhibit to tie all the information together.

I listened in with the guide - and I’m sorry I had to leave before going thru the exhibition as I believe he would have been really fun!

Order your tickets online thru Museum website as they are a non-cash based business.

Museum had their own dining area with good Swedish meatballs!

We visited the Viking museum with our International Baccalaureate class and everyone very much enjoyed the visit! The students and the teachers highly appreciated the entusiasm of the guides. The museum has a very nice layout and the guided tour where we got to taste viking food and touch viking shields etc added to the experience as did the "storytrain" at the end of the tour. We will definitely return here again with other groups.

The museum is filled with information and there was an English guided tour for the first part of the exhibits. I certainly learned a lot and the last part downstairs being so interactive was incredibly immersive. Massively recommend!
