By Zoila Palma: Today, Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris met virtually with Guatemalan Vice President, Alejandro Giammattei.
Harris said that the US wants to increase aid to the region and tackle migration in a humane way, Reuters reports.
The US administration is grappling with 2 crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and the increase of migrants that arrive at the US border including unaccompanied minors.
Harris is tasked with leading US efforts in Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador to cease migrants from making the journey to the US.
“We want to work with you… in a way that will bring hope to the people of Guatemala, that there will be an opportunity for them if they stay at home,” Harris said.
Harris is scheduled to meet with the Presidents of Honduras and El Salvador.
