Baseball Drops Non-Conference Matchup With Mount Saint Mary

Brewers will host Utica this weekend with Senior Day on Saturday

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team had its four game winning streak halted on Wednesday afternoon as the Brewers fell 12-6 to Mount Saint Mary in a non-league matchup at Prentiss Field. Vassar falls to 8-16 overall while the Knights improve to 6-21 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vassar struck first in the bottom of the first as sophomore Jensen Bergman tripled to the right center gap and was scored by a sacrifice fly from senior Reid Lapekas.
  • Mount Saint Mary answered with four runs in the second when Stephen Volk drove in two runs with a single followed by a two-RBI single from Frank Signorelli.
  • The Knights tacked on a run on a RBI double from Tyler Crocitto before the Brewers cut the lead to one on a three-run homer from senior Nick Greenhawt in the third.
  • Mount Saint Mary added three runs in the fourth as Crocitto was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Kaleb Morgan doubled home two runs to make it 8-4.
  • The Brewers reduced the lead to 8-6 in the fifth when senior Ricardo Reyna knocked in two runs on a single through the left side.
  • Mount Saint Mary increased its lead to 11-6 in the ninth as Elijah Duprey scored on a throwing error followed by RBI singles from William Reese Kelly and Alex Nalewajk. Morgan's second RBI double of the game and a bases loaded walk for Duprey put the Knights ahead 13-6.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Junior Birch Herring-Jackson and Reyna each had two hits while Reyna knocked in two runs.
  • Greenhawt finished with three runs batted in and senior Jack Silvera tallied two hits.
  • First year Rohan Mishra got the start and tossed a scoreless inning while sophomore Addison Lee took the loss as he went an inning, allowing four unearned runs and struck out three.
  • Junior Luke Barrientos threw two scoreless relief innings and struck out five for the Brewers.
FOR THE KNIGHTS
  • Morgan recorded two hits and three RBI along with Signorelli added two hits and two runs batted in.
  • Crocitto finished with two hits and two runs driven in while Volk knocked in two runs and Duprey scored two runs and tallied two hits.
  • Daniel Alexander went the first three innings, allowing five hits, four runs, one walk and struck out two.
  • John Morehead earned the win in relief as he tossed 1.2 innings, giving up two unearned runs, three hits and struck out two.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar will take on Utica in a three-game series beginning on Saturday at noon for Senior Day.
  • Mount Saint Mary will host John Jay tomorrow afternoon.
