I was so intrigued by this movie that I kept watching it, from time to time, and I still had a lot of questions about it. Perhaps this quote by Roger Ebert (bless his soul, and I wish he was still with us.), may explain it best, to wit a Roger Ebert's quote he wrote in his review, who with his keen insight, says it much better than I.

"It has one of those plots that doubles back on itself like an Escher staircase. You get along splendidly one step at a time, but when you get to the top floor you find yourself on the bottom landing." (Roger Ebert)
