Outside the classroom, many Vanguard students spread their faith through local outreach projects that help the homeless, youth and elderly of Orange County. On campus, although there are no fraternities or sororities, students can get involved in more than 10 clubs, including the Student Government Association.

Student athletes can join one of the Vanguard Lions varsity sports teams, which compete in the Golden State Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Many students at Vanguard spend their free time enjoying Costa Mesa's mild weather and convenient location. The Vanguard campus is only minutes away from two different zoos, several shopping centers, Newport Beach and Disneyland. An hour's drive takes students to Los Angeles, which offers numerous museums and professional teams in almost every sport.
