We took a $10 cab ride from our Cruise Ship at Canada Place to the sky train. It was a lot easier than I thought. Went to the location just a few blocks away that had an elevator as we had lots of luggage. It was easy, fast and very inexpensive to go anywhere you wanted to go. We went to Surrey but could have gone to the airport then if we had wanted to.

A convenient and fast way to commute. Easy to find way, people were so helpful. It was fast, and clean. The service was almost one every minute and a half. The train cars were clean and stops were displayed on illuminated screens.

Buy a compass card and day pass - well worth it - card is $6 (refundable if you want to make the effort) and a day pass is $10. SkyTrain was the fastest easiest cheapest way to and from YVR the international airport. Transit is frequent, easy to use and clean. And the staff are very friendly and helpful - especially to tourists. Was a very positive experience. Got us around easily to and from Downtown to Gastown. to Yaletown, to Stanley Park and the Capilano suspension bridge and Grouse Mountain. Only ferry included is the SeaBus across the harbor which we took on the way to Grouse Mountain - I would take the SeaBus off hours just for the ride. I mention it is the only ferry included as there may be some confusion with the other ferries - False Creek, AquaBus - these are great services that we used but are not included in the transit system / compass pass. Skytrain and buses were a great way to get around.

The Sky Train helps you crisscross the city efficiently, without getting stuck in traffic. And the big bonus is that it runs directly to the Airport. Single-use tickets can be purchased from vending machines near the entry gates; or you can acquire a Compass Card onto which you load money and from which you deduct a fare for each trip. This is tap and go technology that also works on city buses. Although the Skytrain can be crowded during rush hour (at one stop I had the image of the famed Japanese crowded trains) for the most part the train offers a smooth ride, with stops announced and entry to and exit from the stations clear and clean. You can plan your ride (combining Skytrain and surface transit) with the superb online maps. Need an incentive? A taxi ride from the airport into town runs $30 and up (depending on where you are headed). A seniors' fare - airport to downtown -- is $1.75. This, friends, is how public transit was intended to function, and kudos to Vancouver for making it work.

The good news is that there are lots of guides to answer questions. Once we learned from our first mistake, the system is clean, safe, and easy to use.
