As a transfer and commuter student, I was nervous I would not be able to form connections and make the most of my two years at USF, but I feel so grateful that was not the case. I loved all of my professors, made personal relationships with them, and even was able to experience the incredible opportunity to work as a research assistant and attend a research conference to present our work. I took advantage of USF's resources such as Counseling and Psychological Services and had a great experience with everyone I interacted with who worked at the school. I was awarded significant aid which made it possible for me to attend and eventually get accepted to my dream graduate school program!
USF is a good school if you're interested in nursing, architecture, accounting/business administration, and liberal arts (especially if you want to go to grad school). USF wants to become more of a STEM school, but they are still developing their data science, comp science, and engineering degrees, so I would recommend going elsewhere for those majors. Campus life is not very engaging but it is there. Nightlife is non-existent, and the campus is dead after 5 PM. Just go to SFSU for parties. The cafeteria closes at 9 PM, and the food is a joke, except for the lunchtime sandwich station. You will find generally good professors, a lot of them are eager to talk about their subjects, but there are also a handful of professors worth avoiding. I haven't had issues with the USF resources and staff but I often heard people having issues with them. Dorms are hit or miss unless you get Toler, Loyola, LME, or LMN. Not worth the cost unless you have scholarships/ grants, just go to a CSU otherwise.
The University of San Francisco is located in the heart of the SF, situation right next to the Haight, a few blocks away from the amazing Golden Gate Park, and just a bus ride (which is included in tuition) away from downtown, the Marina, etc. It definitely feels like a small school sometimes, you always run into people on your way to class. This has its pros and cons. There is lots of on campus housing, not a ton of dining options though. My biggest qualm with the University is the lack of organization in the administration; it can take FOREVER to answer a question sometimes. However, I have generally enjoyed my time here. I love the diversity of students, the kindness of my professors, and the opportunities for internships/study abroad/etc.
