PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel softball team defeated the UNCW Seahawks, 7-6, on Sunday afternoon. The victory secures the Dragon a series win.

Prior to the game, Drexel celebrated Grace Abbonizio, Ashley Errico, Ameryn Humble, Lindsey Hunt and Lindsay Nelson for their efforts and dedication to the program.

Nelson (9-12) started in the circle and went the complete game, conceding six runs, though only three were charged to her line.

Hunt led the Dragons at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, including the game-winning home run in the fourth inning.

UNCW began its scoring in the top of the first. A pair of RBI singles gave the Seahawks an early lead, 2-0.

Drexel's offense was firing on all cylinders in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs. It all started with a Lily Meuninck double to left center. Scoring on the play was Kalea Calugay. Then a single through the left side by Hunt. With the bases loaded, Devyn Demchak reached on a fielder's choice and Meunick scored on the play after the UNCW first baseman threw the ball away from the catcher. Natalie Alldred picked up the first hit of her career and RBI with a single up the middle to give Drexel a 5-2 lead. To cap Drexel's scoring, Alamillo was about to beat out an infield single.

UNCW scored one run in the second to pull back within one but it was quickly erased when Hunt hit a home run to left field in the fourth inning, giving the Dragons a four-run lead once more.

The Seahawks managed to score three runs in the fifth inning, but it was not enough, as Drexel was able to work out of the jam and shut down the UNCW offense.

Drexel completes the 2024 season on the road at Elon, beginning on Thursday, May 2. The first game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
