FORT WORTH — The UNT men's basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 American Athletic Championship with a 81-71 win over Tulane Thursday night at Dickies Arena.

The Mean Green (18-13) were led by CJ Noland who scored a career-high 23 points and dished out a career-high five assists in the 10-point win. Thursday's win over the 10-seed Green Wave (14-17) was North Texas' third win over them this season.

With the win, UNT will face No. 2 Florida Atlantic Friday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.

"Really proud of this group," said head coach Ross Hodge. "We have a ton of respect for coach Hunter and his program. They're a tough team to defend. CJ stepped up big for us today and had a career game."

UNT dished out a season-high 18 assists in the win and had four different players score in double figures. In addition to Noland, Rubin Jones had 15 points and hit a huge 3-pointer late to seal the win. It came off a Noland assist.

Robert Allen scored 13 points and had six rebounds. Jason Edwards scored 12 points for his 24th straight game in double figures.

With the win, Hodge becomes the first North Texas first-year head coach to win a conference tournament game since Johnny Jones in 2002.
