The campus is beautiful, nothing like it. However, besides that, everything is mediocre at best. It's difficult to build connections unless you join a fraternity/sorority. The admin does not help with major conflicts amongst students even when they feel deeply unsafe. The academics aspect of it is ok, it gets better as you get deeper into your major but unless you lived in the city and were able to afford to live on campus you are constantly playing catch up to other students who were already aware of certain programs/internships/etc that you just learned about. Also, if you're struggling mentally, good luck - they provide little to no support.
I LOVE my experience at UBC so much. I am in the Forestry faculty and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in classes, reveled in the quality of professors, and met some really cool people along the way. I am an international student and the transition from moving from one country to another was a lot so initially I was worried that I would be overwhelmed also going through a major life change like beginning college. But being a part of the Land One program made my transition easy. This year I am taking a gap year and the student guidance office has been so incredibly helpful through the whole process. The campus is beautiful and there is PLENTY to get involved in both on and off campus. I will say it is a big school in an expensive city so if you are going to prepare for anything, let it be that.
As a second-year psychology student at the University of British Columbia (UBC), my academic journey has been an exhilarating one, characterized by significant growth, both academically and personally, and a myriad of unforgettable experiences that have shaped my university life.
What truly sets UBC apart is its resolute dedication to experiential learning. Throughout my journey, I've been fortunate to partake in a range of research projects, expanding my knowledge and providing firsthand insight into the life of a psychologist actively engaged in pioneering research.
In summation, my second-year journey as a psychology student at the University of British Columbia has been profoundly transformative. UBC's unwavering commitment to academic excellence, experiential learning, its awe-inspiring campus, and vibrant community have collectively shaped it into a nurturing environment for both intellectual and personal growth.
