On Monday, he posted another photo of the cuts on his face and light bruises under his eyes.

He wrote in the caption: 'Sam Newman's boat did this. Apart from the face fall into the step - not pi**ed.'

'Really choppy water - boat rocked like Rose Tattoo! - it was a great day!' he added, referring to another Australian rock band.

Mannix told the Herald Sun that the incident occurred when conditions out on the water became rough while they were anchored by the affluent Melbourne suburb of Beaumaris.

He explained that he dived nose first into a step on Sam's vessel, but insisted: 'I wasn't drunk, I just want to clear that up.'

'The doctors say it's not broken, just an impact injury. It was a great day and I just came away a bit banged up,' the rocker added.

Newman also spoke to the publication about the incident and the wild conditions on the water.

'I anticipated this, but by the time I tried to pack everything up and get the anchor in, the wind had turned and it was absolutely feral. A very hazardous experience,' he said.
