Agreed. Lots of 4.6+ WGPA students has SAT score below 1500, the GPA could be inflated.

Son accepted for Civil Engineering.

Does anyone know if there are oppys for engineering-specific tours or admitted student events?

During the application process, I couldn’t find anything and still don’t see any options. But other schools have had things like this (virtual or in person opportunities to learn about the program details). We didn’t stress about it before because it seemed like such a long shot to get in, but now that we’re comparing options we need a little more info!

Yes Cal has engineering specific tours. my older son is a recent Cal grad and was a tour guide (and gave engineering tours). if you can’t get the engineering specific tour, be sure to visit Jacobs Hall on Cal day - it is what clinched the decision for my son (Mech E)

We are all finished, and I am happy and relieved… I am tired. We will do some admitted student days/tours so she can make a decision about which school is the best fit for her. She’s definitely leaning UCLA. I am very happy that my girl will stay in Cali.

Daughter waitlisted. Major applied: CS. Three waitlists (UCSD, UCSC) all for CS. Congrats to everyone who got acceptance today !

Congrats to all those that were admitted! You worked hard and now are a Bear. Go Bears!

Just a PSA on Foothill dorms. STAY CLEAR OF FOOTHILL. My son is freshman MechE and lives in Foothill. Long story short, on day of move-in the 9 person suite was literally missing a toilet. Housing knew about the issue and I later learned that the toilet install was scheduled for completion in 2025! In addition, at start of Spring term the suite flooded and he along with four others were moved to a new suite, but five other suite mates were left in the suite to deal with the fans and ongoing ceiling/piping repairs. Not a great environment to rest and study! Foothill is an OLD and poorly maintained dorm, and no plans for a major renovation. Housing will not even spend money to replace the torn sofa cushions! It is a crap shoot on whether you will get a decent room or a dump. Oh did I mention the mice, ants and wasps. No reason for freshman to take a chance when there are so many other options!
