Tyler, today is Saturday July 24, 2010. Unfortunately I lost touch with all the Duece guys through the years. I just heard what happened last night. We all know that you are sitting in heaven right now, that goes without saying. But I can guarantee that if there is a heaven just for soldiers, you are the CSM. I can also guarantee that you are sitting on the shoulder of every infantryman on tne battlefield today, doing your best to keep them safe. You were always a great guy, friend, and soldier. You are definately missed my friend. The earth lost a gaurdian. But heaven gained an angel. May you rest in peace Tyler Pickett, and keep watching us all. THIS BUDS FOR YOU.

I am hearing of this news today and I must say I am devistated by this. I am currently seving in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division. I served with Pickett in the same Platoon in Afghanistan and for 3 years in Ft. Drum. Picket was a very sefless Soldier who would help anyone in the time of need. He was a damn fine Solider who would never give up and give 100% in everything he did. I will never forget. I send my prayers to his family. I can't believe this. I must say I served with a fine American who loved his country and his job. RIP SSG PICKETT

SFC Amos Sward

October 4, 2008

It was in 2003 I believe, around October. I went to airborne school and there were about 4 other soldiers from TripleDeuce who went with me. Tyler was one of them, and I remember we were finishing either our second to last or our last jump. We all started to gather around at the rally point on the drop zone, (2-22 Guys) when we noticed Tyler hadn't showed up yet. Almost every one that had jumped had met up, and finally here he came zig zagging with all his stuff. When he got to us, he was pale, and confused, a little tired from the run. I remember asking if he was alright cause he showed the signs of a concussion. I asked him where he was and replied "Ft. Drum." and everyone was like uh oh, and then I said, "Wait wait, how many fingers am I holding up?" And he got it right and everyone said, "Oh hes fine."

Now that I think about it, I think it was his second to last, and he probably did get a concussion, but didnt want to say anything. If he ddint make his last jump, he wouldnt graduate with us. But as a true soldier he found the intestinal fortitude, and he did what he had to to graduate airborne school with us.

I am about to be a Philadelphia Police Officer, I graduate the police academy Oct 24th. Yesterday I was at the funeral of Sgt Patrick Mcdonald of the Philadelphia Highway Patrol. This is the third funeral for a slain P/O in Philly I have been to in 7 months. Being there reminded me of Tyler, and why I can never let Heroes like him fade from mine or anyones memory. Tyler, if there is any way you can see this or hear my thoughts. Know that I will never forget you and these tears are for you. R.I.P. Brother. TRIPLEDEUCE!!!

To you all;

I am Tyler's mom God Bless your words and prayers. Your prayer's are what gets us through this difficult time. Tyler did grow into a fine man, wonderful husband and father, as a mother I am so very proud of his accomplishments. Tyler loved what he was doing and believed in his work. I won't lie my heartaches with each passing day. My comforts are knowing I am not alone. Tyler is in good company in heaven. He lived and died by "Deeds Not Words". Tyler touched so many lives here on earth and for this I am thankful. My heart aches for all of the familes left behind. My prayers go out to all of our fine soldiers. They are all true heros, God Bless their bravery.

My sincerest condolences to the wife, children, and family of SSG Tyler Pickett. Tyler Pickett was one of the nicest guys I have ever served with. We were in Charlie company together in his first deployment to Iraq. I remember him always working with his team and squad. Pickett you were gentle but tough as woodpecker lips. When he was in my platoon he was always the first to volunteer for anything and everything. Tyler always talked of his family, friends, and Wyoming. He loved his wife & children. I am sure he was as devoted a father and husband as he was a soldier. You could always count on Tyler to get things done. I met up with Boyle and Oberle a couple of weeks ago. We spoke about your sense of humor and professionalism. And a little of your antics on deployment. You can bet I will never forget SSG Tyler Pickett. I am still in shock that you are gone. I am sure you are squaring away heaven as we speak. Rest easy Pickett as you have done your share.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

I had the honor to serve underneath SSGT Pickett from garrison to the middle of this deployment. I had the chance to meet his family and friends in Antwerp before we deployed. Not one person who ever came across Pickett wasnt touched in some way or another. SSGT Pickett was a leader in more ways than one. He challenged me on a daily basis to be a better soldier. People like him are few and far between in this world. I would not trade my time with him as a leader for the world. I only hope one day I can leave the footprint such a great leader has left on so many people in this world. To Mrs Pickett and his children I am sorry for your loss, he will be missed as a brother a leader and a friend.

To the family and parents of Tyler I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

June 25, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Wow, I have been out of the military for almost 2 yrs, and until now I have been lucky enough to check the news and 10th mountain fallen warriors page and see no one I know KIA, and every day I prayed that I would never come across a name.

But this evening that wish, that hope was crushed.

I served with Pickett in C. Co, in Afghanastan. I can honestly say there were very few soldiers that loved thier job. And at the time he was a 240B gunner carrying alot of wait. But thats what soldiers like Pickett do, they carry the weight and they continue to smile. I remember going through a pre ranger selection with him, and he always asked me questions, he was always wanting to know how to be a better leader, a better soldier. I could right a thousand memories of Pickett, i really can. But I'll leave it as is.

I realy don't think there is any thing I can say or think of right now to express what is going through my head. I've lost friends overseas, but as I've said its been 2 yrs now, and this is the first since I was in to find that he is not coming home.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I am sure he is in a great place right now, probably sitting by a truck and fishing.

RIP Tyler, Gone but not forgotten!

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Staff Sgt. Tyler E. Pickett our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Tyler. And to Tyler it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Tyler, you are a true Warrior, a brave Patriot and our Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,385 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Tyler’s family and loved ones.

My name is Spc. Jason Jordan, and I am a combat photographer for the unit Staff Sgt. Pickett was a member of. I joined the Triple Deuce Soldiers during Operation Courage Harvest - during which they discovered numerous caches and detained suspected terrorists. Because I normally concentrate on taking photographs, infantry units ask someone to kind of watch my back and keep me safe while I do my job. Staff Sgt. Pickett jumped at the opportunity. He told me not to worry about anything. I spent hours walking through villages that day and the whole time he stayed alert and watching - calmly ready for anything as he gave me advice and told me what to watch out for. I have a few photos of him from that mission, and I would be happy to email them to anyone who sends me an address. Tyler Pickett was a great guy. Despite the hours of walking around in full body armor, and the potential danger we were in - he made me laugh all day long with his sense of humor.

SSG Pickett,
You will never be forgotten; you are an American Hero. Rest in Peace Tyler, RTB.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences for a loss that no one can know but Tyler's family. I did not know Tyler, but my Son did. He served with Tyler in the 2-22. He was one of his honor bearers at the base services and knows that "Pickett" , in his last moments was a true hero and stand up guy.

I hope and pray your family will find comfort and love for each and every one of your days.

A Soldier's Prayer
(author unknown)

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Safely Home

Father we entrust our brother Tyler to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Tyler in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.
