Gibbs beat Cindric’s record for being the youngest driver to win an Xfinity road course race at the age of 18 years, 4 months, and 16 days. Later, in May, Gibbs triumphed once more at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Kyle Busch’s performance in the No. 54 at Road America, one of Gibbs’ events, prompted JGR to switch Gibbs to the No. 81 with Monster Energy as a sponsor. After a broken transmission, Gibbs would finish 33rd. Gibbs led the most laps and ultimately took the victory at Watkins Glen International in the No. 54 car, holding out Austin Cindric and A. Allmendinger, J.
Later, before finishing seventh, he led the most laps in the race at Richmond Raceway in September. Despite only having started 18 of the season’s 33 races, Ty Gibbs earned his fourth victory of the year in the Kansas Lottery 300 in October and placed 13th overall.
