Product Description
Arnold Schwarzenegger is special agent Harry Tasker, a top spy in the ultra-secret Omega Sector who also dances a mean tango- although to his neglected wife, Helen, (Jamie Lee Curtis) he's just a dull computer salesman. But while Harry's been busy fighting terrorists, Helen's been gathering secrets of her own. And when their two secret lives unexpectedly collide, Harry and Helen find themselves in the clutches of international terrorists, fighting to save not only their marriage but their lives as well. Packed with non-stop action, spectacular special effects and unprecedented stunts, this domestic epic from director James Cameron (Titanic, Terminator 2: Judgment Day) is a rollicking `90's twist on the super spy genre.

This reissue fixes that problem, and the video is excellent. The show is a comedy/drama item, and there is a good balance there, with a light touch toning down the rough stuff. The cast is excellent.
Remastered or not, this is a 1994 production, and while the remastering for Atmos fills out all eleven channels (7.1.4) in my AV system, the net result is probably no better than what I would get with a 7.1 disc given the DTS Neural-X treatment by the circuitry in my receiver. Nevertheless, the envelopment was good. One final point on audio. While this soundtrack had impressive bass punch in 1994, by modern standards that punch is not all that impressive. I converted it to impressive by switching in my dbx 120A subharmonic bass synthesizer, and the result was occasional bass PUNCH that brought the results into the modern age. Indeed, my four subwoofers had a good time with the results.
Good movie - this one, made even more fun with the assistance of my dbx device.
Picture:
Many individuals have complained about the image quality on this disc. Their rage is usually aimed at Peter Jackson's New Zealand based facility Park Road Post and the man himself, James Cameron. AI technology has been used to process the footage and create a modern, more glossy look. Though quite a purist myself, I have no issue with this UHD and found the transfer to be superb! There was so much detail, the black levels were deep and the colours were vibrant and appealing. True Lies looks amazing, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Includes Dolby Vision and HDR-10.
Sound:
The new Dolby Atmos mix was aggressive in all the right places and highlighted subtleties in others. Once again, great work from Park Road Post! I didn't encounter any issues or discrepancies with this soundtrack. The bass was nice and heavy when required, plus good reproduction of Brad Fiedel's score and dialogue also.
Ignore the naysayers and buy this product with confidence!
I use the following equipment to view my Ultra HD movies:
Sony KD-55A8 OLED panel (2020)
Sony UBP-X700 4K UHD player (2018)
Sony HT-S2000 3.1 channel soundbar with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X (2023).
Was the wait worth it? To me, a resounding yes! The picture and audio have enough improvement to justify an upgrade or purchase for myself.
The cases not only looks flimsy, they feel super flimsy too. Aliens and The Abyss has 2 of their 3 discs stacked on top of each other, which is a no-no.
All though the included documentary with True Lies is excellent, I would have loved more content and a director’s commentary would have been awesome.
For what is on the discs, however, is good to excellent.

While there was digital scrubbing used, I barely noticed. The picture is fine and definitely an improvement over the DVD. It's not the best looking 4k, but it's no Terminator 2 4k. I've seen reviews give the image a 3.5/5 which I think is fair. The HDR is nice, adds a little flesh tone to people in the night scenes helping to breakup all that blue. The Atmos sound has gotten top marks online, but I cannot confirm that, but True Lies always had a good soundmix.
I saw online that this films negative was in real bad shape and for certain scenes digital scrubbing was required. Other digital changes due to an issue with the type of lens used. For the Aliens bl-ray dis Cameron said he used some new filmstock that made the image too grainy hence Aliens' digital scrubbing. I'm just saying something like this has happened before.
In the end I have this disc to be good overall where only the most die hard videophile could have any kind of issue with.

With a 5.1 English soundtrack it sound great and should you need it, English subtitles are supplied as well. There is also several extras; Making off (22 min.), Featurette (7 min.), Premiere (6 min.), trailer & TV Spots, and interviews with; Arnie, Jamie Lee and James Cameron, the director of this.
However, this is finally getting a UK release in April this year; -maybe you won't have to import it after all.
what a surprise i never thought this film would ever get a blu-ray reissue
this film is well overdue for a new HD transfer
its 2 discs inside black plastic case 4k UHD Disc plus the standard blu-ray Disc ABC coded.
i don't own a 4k player so can't comment on the 4k
but the blu-ray reissue which is ABC coded has been given a new 4k restoration 2:35:1 HD transfer
and i tell you the HD picture quality beats the very old dvd transfer 10 times over
20th century fox made the effort to clean up the PQ
no Doubt No Grain no Dirt excellent colour restoration about 9.5/10 PQ
the sound mix has been boosted aswell to new 5.1 master mix sound very Good 7/10
plus usual optional english subtitles
BONUS EXTRAS both 4K & standard blu-ray has same extras content
which is new 44min retrospective featurette FEAR IS NOT AN OPTION
new on camera 2023 interviews with
James cameron, Jon Landau, Arnold schwarzennegger & Jaime Lee curtis, Bill paxton from 2012 etc
for some reason Tia carrere, Tom Arnold, Eliza Dushku was not interviewed.
lots of vintage behind scenes footage from 1993 Great indepth 44min featurette worth watching
plus the rest of the extras carried over from the very old dvd release
which is original Trailer in DR quality, plus Behind the scenes photo Gallery, Production Gallery
also images of the original script which wouldve made the film run for 3hrs (180min)
instead of the Theatrical cut 141mins
for some reason no 1993 Promo TV featurette, nethertheless 5 times better reissue than what the
old dvd vsn had, time to scrap the very old dvd release which is worth nothing these days.
and upgrade to this new 4k plus 1080p HD blu-ray 4 stars for this new reissue 1 star for the old dvd
