Donald Trump Jr appears so convinced his father should be added to Mount Rushmore, he's even showing what it might look like.

The eldest son of Donald Trump posted an image to his Instagram with the President's head superimposed on the monument.

Trump's orange face, his mouth open in a scream, was pasted next to George Washington on the far left of the cliff in South Dakota.

'I hear it's happening,' he wrote above the Instagram story uploaded on Tuesday.

Trump Jr's pronouncement came two days after he drew a red box on the same spot and wrote 'reserved for Donald Trump' below in another post.

The 46-year-old seemed to be joking as he wrote 'it’s gonna be YUGE!!!' and added the hashtag #humor and three laughing emoticons.

Mount Rushmore was carved out of solid granite in 1941 with the faces of Presidents Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

Numerous similar Photoshop creations exist featuring Trump, one even replacing all four with copies of a notorious photo of him pulling a toothy face.

More than two million people visit the 60ft-high monument every year and it is one of the country's most recognizable landmarks.
